I'm using my gsx 1000 with my laptop and akg7xx. I am thinking about getting a a mobile amp to power my akg7xx better while still using my gsx 1000. gsx 1000> mobile amp> headphones. Would this be a good idea if so what would be a good amp?

If the GSX1000 is not cutting it with the AKG K7XX headphone, maybe just replace the GSX 1000

The GSX 1000 can handle headphones up to 150 ohm so it shouldn't have a problem with the AKG 7XX.
The 62-Ohm AKG 700 series headphones is slightly more power demanding then 250-Ohm Beyer headphones.

That mostly depends on how quiet the amp is on the GSX. I've double amped a few gaming DAC/Amps and all with different results:

Mixamp 5.8 (wireless) - Horrible hissy amp, double amping it just makes the hiss louder.
Recon3D - High noise floor... not nearly as bad as the Mixamp and acceptable noise level when double amping.
DSS2 - Dead silent, both native and when double amped.

GSX is more modern and from a more dependable company than any of these so I'm guessing it should be fine. Maybe @Evshrug can try double-amping his and let us know the results...

The GSX has been silent for me so far, but I've been using it connected straight to headphones that are pretty modest impedence and high sensitivity. I haven't really tested the GSX with the AKG K612 yet, which are even harder to drive than the K7XX, but I will test that and test the GSX double-amped.

I'm already super impressed with the surround imaging with the PC37X, double amping with my Liquid Carbon and using the HD800 should be thrilling!
