Hi there,

New member here on a first post.

After much testing, I've discovered that I am completely content with CD quality sound (16 bit @ 44.1 kHz sr). My background is in pro audio as a sound engineer, but I also live in a reality with a budget and a family to feed. Nothing extravagant is possible given my situation.

With this being said, I plan on using my old dvd player as a transport and use spdif dac through coax into a headphone amp with a through out into computer speakers, when I feel like it. Currently I am using a Fiio E10k for my pc and am satisfied with the sound. This is the quality level I'm expecting for around $100 US.

All I've seen so far is the Lindy Spdif DAc Pro with Headphone amplifier (https://www.lindy.co.uk/audio-video...s-c105/spdif-dac-pro-with-headphone-amp-p7010). Or using a Fiio Taishan D03k (http://www.fiio.net/en/products/7) with a standalone amp (which I can diy if is comes to less than $75 total i.e. parts, case and power). Any other models/options out there?

For my budget i doubt i could diy something together.

Any and all help is greatly appreciate

For that kind of money DAC-HPamps either have only USB or just suck at the headphone amp output, on top of which, it'll be unlikely that you can find one with a preamp output.. I'd much rather save up and get something that actually works well enough as a headphone amp as well as a DAC, like the AudioGD NFB-11, or the Schiit Modi2 Uber with the Magni2 Uber or Vali2. Just use your computer and E10K for now - switching over to the DVD player as transport isn't going to improve anything much less by getting a DAC-HPamp that doesn't work as well as the E10K.

DIY kits aren't likely better as I haven't even heard of any that has a preamp output for that kind of money.
