There are no "definitive" album lists, and everyone would build up their own. But I love reviewing those lists because they help me discover new music. And i like it even more doing it on paper.
Going slow, page by page, within the reviewer remarks, enjoying the photographs of the artists, the album covers, reading why the writer has selected it, it's incredible. And doing it while you listen to them using Spotify... it's priceless.
As a Jazz fan, one of my reference books is "The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings", but as I love music in general another reference is the selection made by Robert Dimery in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die".
I have the 2006 spanish edition by Grijalbo, originally publihed en 2005 by Cassell Illustratedfor the United Kingdom & Ireland.
The list is sorted chronologically and it helps to understand the evolution of music between 1995 and 2005.
Each album has a complete record with a historical review, accompanied by the album cover and its tracklist, some of them accompanied with full page photographs of the artists.
I've located a list from a more updated edition, with albums covering up to 2010 and I want to share it with you along with their Spotify link if available (most of them are) so you can enjoy it directly from this post.
I will be updating the list as I find the Spotify link... 1001 are a lot of searches and right now there are 500 ready.
