IMO he-400 NEEDS an amp, unless you're use to listening to your music on low volume (if you listen to bassy genre's)

Okay I think i've solved it. Earlier up I posted some custom earpad mod of mine with HM5.. it seems as though they were the cause of the lack of bass.. I put the pleathers back on +6 bass on e17 and most my songs are packed with meaty bass, quite satisfied actually.. the definition of the bass...
