can anyone recommend me a warm amp that has lots of power but max price of $200 used, atm i have he-400 hooked with E17 + E9K.. the thing is i have electronic music that needs lots of bass EQ'ing (I use +10 bass EQ on the e17) and since its +10 if i go above like 70% volume(with gain on) the...

Quote:   Lol, it's true but I think we have to learn to accept placebo and hyperboles as a part of the head-fi experience, let people believe what they want to believe... placebo is a powerful thing and it can't even be proved that it's 100% placebo, although I would advise for people to...

Quote:   Haha, I totally agree!!! expectation bias(aka placebo) is all it really is most of the time. Didn't really think too many people would have two separate HE400s lying around though, or else yes that would be ideal. Personally I found J$ to be a great buy regardless of sound, $40...

Quote:   People don't realize that soundstage can be quite hard to differentiate from memory(or even in general) and you'd need to actually compare the same songs to notice any changes in mids/highs(with the exception of vocals and sibilance), bass is the easiest to judge. People may...

    D2000. PRO 900. DT 770 or XB1000 ?

Quote:   same applies to xb700, you need an EQ to turn them into subwoofers.. OP should be focusing on bass quality not quantity.. since quantity can be EQ'd to subwoofer levels on all these basshead cans listed in OP

    D2000. PRO 900. DT 770 or XB1000 ?

I've heard most of them and I can extrapolate what xb1000 sound likes from my xb700..   you seriously can't go wrong with xb700 or xb1000 for dubstep... d2000 would be good too but i personally am not a fan of ultrasone's fit or soundstage   dt770 needs a decent amp but IMO the sound is...

SIGH!!!!!!!!!   I've got the worst luck... so im listening to music on my he-400s e9+e17 as usual, i go to turn up the volume a bit on a bassy song.. then all of a sudden the left driver loses sound completely sounded like someone just unplugged it........ i switched the wires etc, seemed...

    [New] Philips Fidelio X1

Quote: I didn't really compare them head to head but I enjoyed how the X1's seemed to fully engage you in music, they're quite forgiving too.. To me the he-400s sound more veiled.. the soundstage isn't as curved (X1's have angled drivers), he-400s bass is tighter/more defined.. but X1's...

    HiFIMAN HE-400 Question

IMO he-400 NEEDS an amp, unless you're use to listening to your music on low volume (if you listen to bassy genre's)

does anyone else only put 3 out of the 4 earpad tabs in? so it leaves a vent for increased bass reverberation? imo bassheads would love it, as it gives the bass much more presence... you can test out its effect by holding the headphones 1mm from your ear

Quote:   it's not so much that the bass actually increases with pleather, it's that the less bright/metallic sound mades it seem like there's more bass presence, as you said it does have a warmer tone.

Quote:   Try put on the pleathers and when you go to tuck in the 4 clippers (the ones that attach the pads to the hp's) only tuck 3 in, leave the last one out so it leaves a little gap/vent preferably at the back of the headphones.. for me this greatly increases the bass...

Okay I think i've solved it. Earlier up I posted some custom earpad mod of mine with HM5.. it seems as though they were the cause of the lack of bass.. I put the pleathers back on +6 bass on e17 and most my songs are packed with meaty bass, quite satisfied actually.. the definition of the bass...
