I found that the A8 provides +5V DC power on the tip for the microphones. I used a TRRS to 3 RCA adapter, where the RCA for the tip is not connected to anything. The A8 automatically calibrates the levels when you press CAL-OK.

Yes, it's possible, and I think it would sound the same. I think the A8 would let you reduce whatever delay was measured in the PRIR. For what it's worth, I heard no difference when I compared these on my A8: 1. Stereo PRIR and HPEQ measured by line out directly to mic in (no actual mic). 2...

    Yarra Speaker System

There are two ways to look at this effect. One way is that it emphasizes side audio. Another way is that it is diminishes middle audio, especially voices which tend to be in the middle. Either way, the result is the same, because middle and side are relative to each other. I would prefer this...

I wonder if you could pre-capture the in-ear microphone signals as well. That is, record the microphone signals to a file while playing the sweeps from a file, then later play the microphone signals from the file to the Realiser (A8 or A16). I already figured out how to feed line-level signals...

The Atlona devices go a step further than that. Both sinks can be active at the same time. For example, it passes the multichannel stream to a receiver (which has the audio EDID that the source detects), and it downmixes to 2-channel for a TV.

Atlona makes devices that produce stereo audio for one sink while passing through the multichannel stream to another sink. This might be a work-around. https://atlona.com/product/at-hd-m2c/ https://atlona.com/product/at-uhd-m2c-bal/ https://atlona.com/product/at-hdr-m2c/

    Yarra Speaker System

It was claimed that the Yarra's beamforming would be equivalent to 30 dB of crosstalk cancellation, but when I use my SPL meter to measure the ILD, it only gets up to 10 dB in Surround mode. If it was 20 dB or more, it would work much better for binaural content. As far as Stereo mode is...

That's unfortunate, but if you add an A/B switch, those limitations won't matter. Another option is to muffle one ear or stand a mattress between the speakers. I wonder if the A16 supports the dual-user method like the A8 does.

You would measure the center speaker the same way as any other speaker. That is, connect the center speaker to the receiver's front left speaker output, and the Realiser sends the sweep signal to the receiver's front left analog input. You would simply be using the receiver as a 1-channel amplifier.

Another way is to connect one speaker at a time to the receiver's front left or right speaker output terminal, if the receiver has a 2-channel analog input. That way the speakers can stay where they are. Connect speaker 1. Measure speaker 1 for 3 head positions (look center, look left, look...

One possible way is to measure a speaker at 30-degree increments (similar to the A8's "ONE" method), and the Realiser can interpolate between those measurements to create more virtual speakers (similar to how it interpolates for headtracking). For example, it can create a virtual speaker at 45...

    Yarra Speaker System

I don't think that it would help. Both ears hear each channel too much. This is easy to demonstrate by listening to just one channel on one Yarra.

    Yarra Speaker System

Stereo mode sounds like a pair of speakers spaced 1 foot apart, regardless of my listening position. Surround mode sounds likes a pair of speakers spaced 8 feet apart, when my ears are 4 feet away for Near, or 6 feet away for Far.

    Yarra Speaker System

When Comhear was demonstrating the Yarra with the A8, I think that it was a prototype version that had a crosstalk-free mode, which would be appropriate for the A8 output (or any other signal that is already binaural). The current version does not have a crosstalk-free mode, thus it would sound...

No, I didn't mistype. The A8 has a jack labeled "HT" on its front panel, similar to the two jacks on the A16's front panel. The A8's manual states that this jack is "for wired head tracker (not provided)." The A8's wired set-top connects to the "IR REF" jack on the A8's rear panel, by the way.

    Yarra Speaker System

It turns out that the Yarra lacks a crosstalk-free mode, so I have not bothered to try my Yarra with my A8. The Yarra has just two modes, Surround and Stereo, and both have crosstalk. I updated the firmware today, and it still lacks a crosstalk-free mode. I hope that Comhear will add a...
