ok, let's do it: Kinks best album
As an absolute favorite, Arthur also gets my vote. -
ARCAM CD73/Rotel RCD-1072
The 72T didn't have HDCD capabilities, although it was available as an expensive upgrade. Not sure about the 73, but it is the successor to the 72.- danaa

New HD-650's suck when new
For me? It was really around 140-150 hours before they started to really blossom. After that, I didn't notice much change. To be honest, I was surprised. I was kind of new or trying out headphones again and was questioning whether speakers and/or headphones really changed their sonic...- danaa

New HD-650's suck when new
Quote: Nice...too much bass -> crap - confused sound...nothing sounds right -> hmmm...maybe i'll hang on to these -> Ok bass is completely gone -> Detail and midrange are bloody incredible -> bass is back!! but not as prominent as before -> unbelievable balance...simply superb!! That...- danaa

Just picked up a pair of these...
I'd say the Grado 225's would be an excellent choice for the type music you listen to. And, you can get them for under $200 with shipping included. Still, if you really like the Bose, keep 'em, but I'd at least try to audition other headphones if you're still within a window of opportunity to...- danaa

Congratulations. The Senns are a very fine pair of headphones. They do definitely benefit from a dedicated amp.- danaa

Got my Grado SR-225's today.
Wow!!! You have a great memory. Yes, I waited a couple of days to see if they'd break up, but no such luck, so I had to buy my own pair. These phones are fun!!! On my Senns, I sometimes get over analytical about the sound. These I just plop on and enjoy.- danaa

Got my Grado SR-225's today.
Never intended to get a new set of phones. Usually listen to classical and my Perreaux/Senn 650's have more than brought me great pleasure in this regard. But......................... You see, my daughter's boyfriend wanted some headphones. Instead of his buying the $30 pair he thought would...- danaa

approximately how many cd's do you own?
I'd guess over 2,000 with another 500 or so vinyl discs, but I'm not going to count them. I've been collecting a long time though. Bet Dark Angel puts my number to shame. -
Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
Saxphile, That Barbirolli is my favorite No. 6 as well. The Gielen stands right up there imo. Both allow the emotions to flow, but never let the work lose focus or cohesiveness. We must both have excellent taste. -
Two hundred dollars
Well, I just purchased the Grado 225's for my daughter to give to her boyfriend for Christmas this year. The reasons are: 1. She was going to give him a $30 pair. As he's a pretty serious musician and listens to music all the time, I thought a better pair would be more justified. 2. He...- danaa

Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
DA, You da man!!! Just canceled Amazon and ordered Tower. I feel a whole lot better about it. And, I can't wait!!! -
Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
Some have gone so far as to say it is the finest Mahler recording yet period, so I too had to see what all the commotion was about. But, it was a pricey CD, at least at Amazon where I bought it. -
Favorite Bruckner Recordings
Well, toss another recommendation in for me. I received my third Bruckner No. 9 today, with Kubelikat the helm and it is wondrous. My previous two, Giulini and Jochum are both highly considered, but this version is a marvel. Slightly laid back, it is transcendental in the way it handles shifts... -
Favorite Bruckner Recordings
Anasazi, I can only comment on the two No. 5's I own, Sinopoli on DG and Celibidache on EMI. This was my first Celibiache recording of Bruckner and it almost turned me off to ever getting him again. It is way too slow and I like my Bruckner slow with certain pieces. Thankfully, others had... -
Your Favorite Music Genre
Classical, mostly...with some rock, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and folk in there too. -
Richard Strauss Recordings
I currently have Strauss on three or so CD's. Surprisingly, I started a similar thread on another board last week. I was sick and in the process of falling asleep with my radio on a classical station when Kempe conducting Strauss's tone poem, Don Quixote, came on. It was wonderful. I really... -
Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
By the way, I listened at 23:00 of my BP and there is no drum sounding on my copy, at least where I thought it would be. -
Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
For Mahler's No. 6, my favorite two are Gielen and Barbirolli with NPO. Both hold a tight rein structurally. Barbirolli is coupled with a nice Strauss Ein Heldenleben. I think you're going to like it. -
Mozart Piano Concertos
Perahia stands right up there, but, if you can, try to get a hold of the Casadesus/Szell/Cleveland. They are, imo, absolutely superb. Moravec is also very good. -
Sibelius Symphonies
Amadeuswus, That is simply a great story, especially how Ormandy stood up for the members of the orchestra. He and the Philadelphia were excellent Sibelians. Thanks for sharing.
