Quick question: are the build instructions on the Torpedo website all up to date? I'm about to start my build but it's been a while since I read through this whole thread.- jboehle

The 5963 is a variant of the smaller 12AU7 tube that goes in the front. The 6080 is the larger tube that goes in the middle.- jboehle

Looks like that resistor probably goes between terminal 12 & 13 IIRC, please verify with the assembly guide and don't take my word for it. Why did you mount the tube socket in the middle on top of the plate instead of underneath? And you didn't follow the assembly guide carefully - you...- jboehle

You should install parts with the printed values facing up, so when someone has to repair / mod it in the future, it's easy to see what's what. :)- jboehle

Doodlebug - USB Isolator
Any update on this, tomb? I have been experiencing some intermittent audio drops with one of my MacBook Pros and the pupDAC. I have been using the analog headphone out from the MacBook Pro the last few days instead, feeding into my headphone amps and have not had the same issue. This sounds...- jboehle

pupDAC Step-by-Step Build Thread
Hooked it up to my 17" MacBook Pro tonight and got some new measurements. 5V = 4.989V -5V = -4.9702V -2V5 = -2.4890V 2V5 = 2.4897V 4V5 = 4.7235V 3V3 = 3.308V R = 1.04mV offset L = 0.1mV offset All looking great! Hooked it up to my work 15" MacBook Pro which had a charger...- jboehle

Hah, I hadn't thought about that correlation :) Yeah, I was just pointing out that the 4.75V was okay. The DC offset of 8.1mV definitely is a little high. Particularly going into an amp like the M3 which has no output offset protection.- jboehle

I haven't been able to test mine with a different computer yet. My one working amp (M3) is disassembled while the case is at the powder coater. I have a Bottlehead Crack kit to build, but it's top plate is also at the powder coater. And the KSA5 clone I'm building, I f'd up and shorted out...- jboehle

I get the ticking as well. I will have to try a different computer. It's only in my left channel. I switched the cables from L->R and the ticking moved to the right channel. This was hooked up to a 2011 MacBook Pro that was not connected to a charger at the time. With Monoprice 8323 phones i...- jboehle

Yes, you are doing it the completely wrong way. Judging an electronic circuit based on how attractive or how many components there are is just asinine.- jboehle

I wouldn't include the Bottlehead power cord when you are comparing to the WA3. I guarantee the WA3 comes with a cheap ass Made in China power cable.- jboehle

How to set gain on solid state amp
How long are the wires to the RCA jacks? If you unscrew the IEC from the back panel, do the wires give you enough leeway to tilt the back panel and pull it through the chassis? Could you try squrting some lubricant up in the back side of the knob? You would probably want to use something...- jboehle

Of course, the HD650 is a great headphone, upgrade the cable if you want! I guess I should ask what you are after by upgrading the cable? Do you want a different sound? Or do you want the existing sound to be better? If so, in what way? I just think it's ridiculous to spend more than 1/2...- jboehle

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
I think first you have to decide if you definitely need it to run both low & high impedance headphones. If you decide you only need it for the DT880, you can select something specifically tailored for high impedance. If you go that way and are at all DIY inclined, you could take a look at...- jboehle
