    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Anyone else having problems with USB DAC mode with custom FW and changed region? I have stock US 1A which I changed to J region and Solis FW. With Mac OS, turn on DAC mode causes "cannot communicate" error, 1A frozen, then automatically restarts. This happened twice, then I connected 1A to...

Hi guys, I'm in the US and ordered directly from Sandisk via this link: https://shop.sandisk.com/store/sdiskus/en_US/pd/productID.5312044100/SanDisk-Extreme-microSD-UHSI-Card-1TB It shipped from Wisconsin to Michigan in 1 day. Unfortunately, they appear to be out of stock. The article I saw...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Well, it’s interesting, my last DAP was the Astell & Kern AK120 Titan. The reason I have 5 .aiff files in my library is the AK120 could not play the 24/192 ALAC version of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue from HDTracks without stuttering. After converting those tracks to .aiff I had no performance...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

Update on the new Sandisk 1TB card (apologies if it's too much geek data, but I had the info): Total time to copy 773.81 GB library to card: 2 hours 56 minutes (source was external USB 3 SSD drive to USB 3 card reader). Total time for WM1A to read card and create database: 5 minutes 50 seconds...

    SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A

I have just received the card. Initial testing shows the card at least works when formatted by WM1A and with a single ALAC album. Will report performance after transferring 800GB overnight.

WM1A seems to read PCM 48 kHz regardless of hifi or MQA track. This is with option set "passthrough MQA" turned on in Tidal.

    24/88 upsampling to 24/96 for HM-801

Hi all.  I have some 24/88 FLAC files that I'd like to play on my HifiMan HM-801.   My HM-801 is being a jerk and won't play them.  I don't know if this is by design or a bug in the firmware.  I believe I have the latest firmware.  I thought that I had read the 801 would upsample...

HifiMan HM-801 Coax DAC oddness, please advise (MacBook Pro)

You have to specifically set the output to 24/96, but the MBP does support it.   I've confirmed that it works on another MBP so it looks like my MBP is FUBAR.  I'd love to replace it with one of the newly released ones.  Fast.

HifiMan HM-801 Coax DAC oddness, please advise (MacBook Pro)

Yes, it is 24/96 via coax, but 16/48 as a USB DAC.   I can confirm 24/96 works when I chain like this:   MBP/Vox 24/96 Toslink -> Denon DVD-5000 24/96 Toslink -> M-Audio Converter Coax -> HM-801   The Denon recognizes a 24/96 signal from MBP, but without the Denon in the loop I get...

HifiMan HM-801 Coax DAC oddness, please advise (MacBook Pro)

No problem, thanks for the reply.   It looks like something is wrong with the optical out on my MacBook Pro.   I copied a single 24/96 Flac file along with Vox to a thumbdrive and tried the following config on a different MacBook Pro:   MBP/Vox 24/96 -> M-Audio Converter -> HM-801...

HifiMan HM-801 Coax DAC oddness, please advise (MacBook Pro)

You are mistaken.  I am well aware that the HM-801 does not support optical.   Perhaps I didn't make this clear enough.   I am using this device to convert optical to coax:   http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/CO2.html
