I rip to Apple Lossless using iTunes, and have not expereanced any problems. .

What you need to ask yourself is if it is worth having files twice as large as the Apple Lossless files. Try both and see if you can tell the differance, and as Richter said you can always convert an Apple Lossless file to AIFF, when desired, with full AIFF quality. .

The iPod does not support FLAC. Use Apple Lossless instead. .

In a Stereophile magazine report they ripped a CD to Apple lossless, and then converted the lossless file back to WAV. The two files were a perfect match. The Lossless file is just like a ZIP file. You don't loose anything in a ZIP file, so you shouldn't loose anything in a lossless file. .
