The 272 makes a pretty good outside headphone because it is closed and has relatively good sound isolating properties. I think you mobile amp might have problems powering the 701. I've never had a 601.

Rome is a lot better than spartacus. You can kinda tell that a lot of spartacus is CGI, whereas they built a pretty nice set for Rome. Also, Rome has better writing.

You also could have damaged the sound card. Do you have another source you could test your headphones on - like a MP3 player?

It's strange that they picked top of the line for some brands (HD800) and not top of the line for other brands (DT660). It's pretty odd to see the AH-D1001 in the same roundup as the HD800, W5000 and GS1000.
