Have you heard the new Linear Tube Audio Z10e amplifier?
I did not as I was content with the Audezes. I have heard the Voces once and thought they sounded nice and similar in quality to Staxs though for originality sake I opt for the Staxs. High end Staxs like the 007 and 009 are the most refined headphones I've come across in all my years.- milezone

Have you heard the new Linear Tube Audio Z10e amplifier?
I had a chance to hear this amp paired with Audeze CRBN headphones at a local show here in WA and I found the pairing to be fantastic. In the past I have not been very fond of Audeze headphones like the LCD series which I find bloated and sloppy. I've owned many Stax headphones and amps over the...- milezone

The Stax Thread III
Hi, in the interest of simplicity I own a stax srd7pro and am looking to drive my headphones directly from the output of my dac/interface (a rme802) connected to the srd7pro and use the computer as my volume control. Is there enough gain available to drive the stax' and furthermore does this...- milezone

Gustard A20H DAC (Dual AK4497EQ, analog preamp, headphone amp, all in one)
With the Sennheiser HD600s it's a match made in heaven. I suspect the 300ohm input impedance is an ideal pairing with this amp. I'm playing out of the SE output and the results are excellent. The 120ohm impedance K501s and far more so 25ohm DT48s where a good bit worse sounding than the HD600s...- milezone

Gustard A20H DAC (Dual AK4497EQ, analog preamp, headphone amp, all in one)
I've never heard them and frankly don't have the funds to justify such a purchase. I definitely believe in the use of Beryllium for dynamic speaker designs and am sure they are very good. In my experience with electrostatic headphones and speakers, nothing comes close. While perhaps a bit...- milezone

Gustard A20H DAC (Dual AK4497EQ, analog preamp, headphone amp, all in one)
I've heard many a nice dac in my day but cannot provide direct comparisons. The Questyle boasts pretty good specs and I suspect it's very good. I cannot compare. I'm very fond of AKM chips hence my purchase of this DAC. The best descriptors I can give for the A20H are clear and robust.- milezone

Gustard A20H DAC (Dual AK4497EQ, analog preamp, headphone amp, all in one)
I purchased mine via the seller Foxremen, so available in the USA currently as the unit has 220/110v modes. I've been out of the headphone game for a bit and have never heard a pair of HD800s surprisingly. My preference by a vast margin is Stax electrostatic headphones. They are simply and...- milezone

Gustard A20H DAC (Dual AK4497EQ, analog preamp, headphone amp, all in one)
To describe the sound in brief. Extremely dry, neutral and fast. It also has a certain power and weight to the sound. I'm really impressed.- milezone

Gustard A20H DAC (Dual AK4497EQ, analog preamp, headphone amp, all in one)
Just picked up one of these. Incredibly solid unit. The headphone out seems very quality even from the single ended output with my trusty AKG K501s. Balanced is supposedly better on this unit though I haven't tested and don't see why it would be. Playing direct out of the balanced out to a pair...- milezone

Loudspeakers vs headphones
In my experience of listening to plenty of speakers, I agree it's a different experience, but not to such a dramatic degree as some people make it seem. I've listened to tons of high end systems in treated rooms none of which I found to be comparable to the Acoustats that I used to own. I firmly...- milezone

Loudspeakers vs headphones
Agreed - Martjin those are amazing speakers from everything I've read about them - in a handful of 5 or so speakers that I suspect would be worth the coin. I'm recently transitioning out of owning a pair of speakers for some time - Acoustat X's with modified servo amplifiers, among many other...- milezone

I was expecting something electrostatic. That being said, I'd take the NASA system over the Focal Grande system.- milezone

Do audiophiles "like" music?
I wouldn't be an audiophile if I didn't love music. There is a double edged sword at play which is, that the more analytical I am, the less I enjoy the music -- in the way that I did when I was a child. I think analysis, judgement, critical faculties diminish our ability to empathize . Music is...- milezone

Is There Sound Quality Difference Between Electrostatic and Planar Drive Headphones
Tyll, regarding your initial point, I don't see how this is applicable if we're talking within the speaker's working power range. I think people often tend to justify planar magnetics as producing better bass but assuming they can both play at a certain level equally with an even frequency...- milezone

See this video to illustrate the difference between planar and conventional speakers. In this instance, these are planar magnetics and the design is very unique and a bit of an evolution from older designs. Really interesting and informative...- milezone

Quad ESL57 frustrations.
I'm not sure Stax DA50M's would be your best bet for Quads. I've used a single DA80 to power Quads and found it to be a bit limiting. They were detailed and sweet but not enough gain with my preamp to get good bass oomph. Given your price range I'd recommend an Almarro 318B. It mates incredibly...- milezone

Is There Sound Quality Difference Between Electrostatic and Planar Drive Headphones
True. On that same note -- semantics -- dynamic vs electrostatic isn't an accurate comparison. It would be electrostatic vs electrodynamic. A planar magnetic phone is just an (electro)dynamic phone with a planar transducer. Flat is better. Electrostatic, better still.- milezone

Is There Sound Quality Difference Between Electrostatic and Planar Drive Headphones
Electrostatic technology is cheap however it's also hard to implement well. In short, by being the lightest diaphragm material and a true dipole they are faster than any other technology and thus can render more detail than any other transducer. I haven't heard them but I assume Stax went to...- milezone

Nope. But they're in a relatively small apartment living room. Given that they're electrostatic speakers, (in my experience) they sound best in a near field listening scenario. They're large, as is my turntable, and for that matter all my furniture, relative to the size of the space. It's a bit...- milezone
