review for Sheer Audio HA-006+ (DynaLo) ?
Here's how you change gain on the HA-006 series of amps. See the green bracket and the resistor in it? That's the 10K resistor for 11x gain amps, change it to 2K and you get a 3x amp, change it to a nice short circuit and you get 1x gain. Just make sure you understand that the closer it is to...- Maniac

Consumer audio products always have very fat profit margins for resellers, that's why there's a lot of places selling them new for around $700... If you managed to pick it up from someone who already got it at a good price, the end result is quite shockingly affordable. ;)- Maniac

Great stuff, If you have a Sony Xperia Z series phone, you will suddenly understand why top and bottom bezel is so big... It is for that silicon band to grab onto the phone without cutting into the display area. Using it with my XBA-Z5 in balanced mode. The list price $999 is a big high, but...- Maniac

Which part of partially didn't sound clear to you? I've never seen anyone coat their diaphragm half way like they do, and for good reason. Want your diaphragm to flex in a weird way? Make part of it harder and part of it softer, that's how. Xiaomi want to claim that they have this brilliant...- Maniac

Nope, Xiaomi's diaphragm are all only coated half way, all of them are like that, the following teardown is in Chinese, but it shows you the diaphragm extracted from the headphone. Clearly showing that it is not fully coated in Beryllium. http://www.soomal.com/doc/20100005809.htm If you want...- Maniac

The Mi Headphones by Xiaomi (Lively Discussions starting Page 7)
IMHO Mi Headphone's best feature is the fantastic feel of the cable, and the fantastic build and parts. Like the rail that you adjust headphone fit with, that doesn't look cheap, the folding mechanism is quite well made. Care has been taken to make the can itself AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE while...- Maniac

I also own a pair, the only comment I can provide on sound quality is HIDEOUS! the headphone just wasn't tuned properly, and in an effort to save cost, they likely ****ed up the driver by only coating it partially with beryllium instead of coating it uniformly (if you take out the ear pad, you...- Maniac

Been tinkering with it some more, cut out the filter cloth of the faux leather pads, and that made things even worse. :P Couldn't keep it on my ears, except when I use it to listen to John Oliver's Last Week Tonight.- Maniac

I have far less favorable review of this headphone. First off, the beryllium only appear on the center of the driver cone, I don't think it even covers close to 1/2 of the total surface area, of course, PET film throughout, just the center section is coated with our favorite toxic metal...- Maniac

Not sure if anyone posted about this before, but I removed the circular foam on top of the driver grill. I didn't really do an A-B comparison on the difference, but I find that I quite like the vocals after the foam is removed. Is anyone doing the same thing as well?- Maniac

Where can I buy a built Dynalo for $300?
Nope, like justin said, the sale was pretty ****ty in the end, it doesn't make sense for us to dump a load of money in it and to have it end up sitting there staring back at us for the next four to five years. It went pretty darn fast when I shouted out there are only 12 units...- Maniac

I was trying to hook up my PDM-10s to Xperia Z2, as I have some flac music stored there, unfortunately it seems to trip Z2's current limit function, and need to use the split OTG adapter in the photo to power up the DAC first, then connect it to the phone. Basically that means I'll need some...- Maniac

Just got mine delivered, tried it on my ThinkPad W520's headphone out and played some phantom of opera from back when Sarah Brightman had something to do with the thing. Big mistake, it sounded so gross that I'm getting goose bumps... Guess I'll leave it to run in while I dig up something...- Maniac

No, they don't work like that. Each transformer is needed per channel, so you will still need two transformer, no matter if you want to use headphone only or speaker only. Also, I'm not sure about the transformer's configuration, and one with the fitting spec might not be so easily found...- Maniac

Good luck, the wiring can be simplified by applying simple logic. Something like "does this line need to go back and forth for absolutely no reason..." :P My advice on this amp is that due to the cheapness of the amp, DO NOT drop uber expensive parts in it, it is going to be a waste of your...- Maniac

White one with brown ends. Just tap them with something hard, I use my ring (platinum) and it will sound a bit like two pebbles hitting one another, and that's ceramic. Plastic will sound dull.- Maniac

You can get one of those non-locking Neutrik sockets that is the same shape as the one in there, which will allow you to swap it in without any additional metal work.- Maniac

review for Sheer Audio HA-006+ (DynaLo) ?
I'm sorry to say that HA-006+/++ series had come to an end, we simply run out stock on it. Instead of ordering more parts to build HA-006++, we feel a redesign is in order to reduce the massive drain on man-hours (lots of wires = lots of hours). However, instead of doing that, there's another...- Maniac

I also got one just for kicks, since it is really not expensive... As is unmodified, it is a bit on the clouded/muddy sort of sound, not very clear/sharp. It does have good punch, but it really need to work on the detail side of things. I've so far modded the input tube to take 12AX7...- Maniac
