The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread
If you are like me (and by that, I mean most of those browsing Summit-fi), difference in price is secondary. Even subtle differences in sound quality and slight relative weaknesses will gnaw at you once you have heard better. If the cost of upgrading is truly out of your league then you find...- Dr. T

The Stax Thread III
Agreed whole heartedly. I was able to get a Carbon second hand. After a few sessions with the 009's I promptly sold my HE-6's and LCD-2's. They might as well go to someone who will use them. I'm done with orthos.- Dr. T

St. Louis Mini-Meet (March 9th)
I hate to be the one to cancel at the last minute, but I have to in this case. My honey-do list just exploded and it now looks like I will be painting all day tomorrow. We'll try for another time. Theo- Dr. T

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
Quote: Unfortunately no. I don't know of anyone with a 400 or 800 for that matter and if I did I would be tempted to make an offer for it just for its historical significance. I'm sure it would sound great just based on the CAS 2 (mine is factory upgraded to the same stasis design -...- Dr. T

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
Been listening to my HE-6 for a few hours through a restored Threshold CAS-2. The first interesting thing is that while I figured I would need to crank the volume way down from the Mjolnir, it was actually only a couple clicks. Second, I expected great bass and was not dissappointed, but I...- Dr. T

Schiit Mjolnir headphone amplifier
Mine is dead silent. But there is a very soft but audible hum from the power supply of my Zana Deux. Both plugged into the same dedicated audio circuit.- Dr. T

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
I lean towards SS myself, but I must say that the ZD/HD800 combo is pretty magical. From what I've heard, the Balancing Act takes it even a notch further. Back on topic, I have found that the Mjolnir/HE-6 pairing is almost as resolving as the ZD/HD800 without any harshness and with...- Dr. T

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
I have been really enjoying my Mjolnir/HE-6 combo. In many ways, it has made me rethink my Zana Deux/HD800 which was my previous reference. Not that I'm giving that one up though! So I am about to join team overkill having just acquired a restored Threshold CAS 2. When I get it I will post...- Dr. T

St. Louis Mini-Meet (March 9th)
I'm working all this weekend but I'll look into subsequent dates. Are there weekdays that work for you all or are weekends best? The Emotiva will be interesting, and I have the adapter for the HE-6. If a smallish 50W amp does well, I wonder what a 200W class A beast will do! The...- Dr. T

St. Louis Mini-Meet (March 9th)
I got your PM, Chris. Logistically, it would probably be best to do it at my place if its just a couple of people. My schedule is pretty busy right now but there are cracks here and there that can work, usually Saturday afternoons are best. The other thing is that I am intending to formally...- Dr. T

St. Louis Mini-Meet (March 9th)
I don't have my work schedule for March yet, but I could potentially bring some gears. West Co. or St. Charles would be best but I might be able to get to Columbia, IL. I've got a Zana Deux driving HD800's, HD650 and Beyer DT880's. Lots of tubes for rolling too. Also a Schiit Mjolnir...- Dr. T

List of High-End Digital Source Owners on Head-Fi Continued
Quote: It was a Cary 303/200, a good player but nothing like this. I got mine used on a'gon for a pretty decent price I think. The guy I bought from was funding an Audi RS, not a 5s. I'm not sure the logic of selling a CD-5 to buy a 5s. The upgrade is the DAC circuit board which...- Dr. T

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
Quote: microphonics is extraneous sound produced by vibration of audio components. Classically a problem with vaccum tubes, but also can be produced by the ambient sound as well. The gist is that vibration can cause small changes in the physical distance between conductive components...- Dr. T

LCD-2 on Zana Deux?
My order is in for the LCD-2's, so hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to make some comments. I'm sure others have plugged them into the Zana Deux. I would be interested in what they have to say as well.- Dr. T
