Hrm. It's with no EQ, through an X-Fi Go Pro! USB sound card.   It's not even so much that it is very harsh or fatiguing, really, it's more grain or just plain weirdness, and it's only a certain part of the treble frequencies. I guess it sounds more like the "mid-treble", or the center part...

Maybe so. Probably wishful thinking, but I know for my Meelectronics HT-21s and HD238s both the treble smoothed out over time. Both had rather piercing treble out of the box.

I have seen reviews of SK headphones improving lately and that with some models they're finally stepping it up some. I still think overall that they, like many other "stylish" brands have terrible/weird/childish designs and focus more on that than on sound quality.   The only one I've tried...

In my experience the HD238 is relatively light on bass. It is present, but it is very tight/balanced. If music has any low bass drops or any booming/thick bass, the HD238s won't really do it justice. I believe it's plenty for most music but I don't listen to much hip-hop.

Hrm it doesn't seem to bother me. It had some clamping force when I first got it but that has eased over time and I find it comfortable enough to wear for hours at a time.

I always thought burning-in was BS... until my Sennheiser HD238 and Meelec HT-21 headphones. The Senns sound wildly different (and better) now than they did out of the box. Better bass, crisper/clearer highs, better separation... I was very surprised at how different they sound now. 

I personally love the AKG GHS1 headset. Decent isolation, not sure about leakage or some of the other things you require. Great mic, good sound for games or music. 

Instrument separation actually sounds pretty good to me on these, on the better end of the spectrum even, especially among budget headphones. And especially when it comes to bass guitars. I'm hearing some bass lines I never heard before and that is quite exciting to not hear it fully drowned out...

The bass definitely is better coming out of my X-Fi Go Pro!, and I'm not getting the buzz AceofKnaves21 mentioned. It could be EMI. I have mine inserted into a USB extension cable to distance it from the computer itself. I don't know if that might help.   These headphones seem very picky...

Was able to pick up the TBSE1 today at Tuesday Morning (local store) for $40 (it was the normal $50 and then 25% off storewide sale today).    I was able to spend more time in Best Buy this time listening to it's brother, the DJ200, and it seemed the system was hooked up properly this time...

I think they are far more clear/balanced (especially in treble) than most of Meelec's offerings (M6, R1, M2). Meelec's similarly-priced models sound good for the price, but I'd take the EarPods any day over them. I haven't tried the BA earphones from Meelec or the clarity series, so maybe those...

It depends on what your ears tell you about the sound. Because you may enjoy the sound of an IEM sealed in your ear better... you should at least try out the EarPods for a few minutes, even if you do decide to sell. Your experience could be the opposite of mine.

WickedZen, where were you able to get these for $50? Were they new as well? I might jump on them immediately at that price. Around here they've been going for $70-80.
