I think this is actually the seal of the headphone earcup around your ear being disturbed as you move. I noticed the same thing and the headphone wasn't powered on. A slightly disturbed seal with give the same airy sound as the external mic. I was able to get rid of it by adjusting the headband.

Did you keep the measurement mic in the exact same position when you compared the measurements from both DACs? I could see in room response being down quite a bit if the measurement was taken at the listening position.

How steeply are you talking about here? I think it is natural for the Master 7 to have a slow roll-off from about 13k to 20kHz, but it is only down about 0.5 dB at 20 kHz. This is measured through an audio interface, not the speaker.

Yes, the price is now ridiculous. In this configuration, Roon would be the user interface and HQPlayer would be the audio engine that does all of the upsampling and filtering. You can set this stuff up so that the upsampling and filtering reside on a powerful computer away from the audio system...

If you find you like the sound of HQPlayer, Roon will feed it well if you need better library management. Of course, I believe the cost of Roon is now quite a bit more expensive than when it was first introduced.
