Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I agree that Rob should be adding an optical connection from the new scaler to future dacs that could have that optical input, to completely solve the issue of rf noise coming from the scaler. As others said, quite a few other manufacturers have done this. I will be pretty disappointed if it...

    Watts Up...?

I think 15k USD is pretty likely. I doubt it's less than 12k. there's a lot going into this product, specially with two chassis as well, its not gonna be cheap to make.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

I had the Rockna for quite a while, considered it my endgame till I bought the Dave out of technical curiosity and ended up selling the Rockna, I posted my impressions here if you're interested https://www.head-fi.org/threads/chord-electronics-dave.766517/page-1470#post-17090341

    Watts Up...?

Another tip for solid state amplifiers. Coda Technologies. I haven't ever liked Pass Labs, they always sound pretty boring/dead to me. I had a Benchmark ahb-2 I liked alot more. But a year and half ago I bought a Coda No.8 and fell in love from first listen. its the best solid state speaker amp...

    Watts Up...?

This is another interesting interview with Rob Some interesting tidbits. Ultima Dac will be dual chassis, separate power supply, but it will still be SMPS. but with more advanced RF filtering than before. The advancements in the new choral scaler isn't just more taps. Rob had lots of time...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

You're incredibly patronizing attitude that you know better than everyone else is obnoxious. Having compared Dave to many high end dacs for extended periods of time in my own home on my own rig, I've continued to find it the best dac on the market and wouldn't trade it for anything else...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Probably, I’d let it go all the way down every once in a while. But my convenience matters too, if it hurts the battery faster to use it that way so be it

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I have been considering trying one of these batteries to run my mscaler, and i figured i would leave it on all the time, and any time i wasnt listening I would plug the battery in to charge, and when i was listening i would unplug it. no need to constantly turn off the mscaler

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

connecting the dx outputs of one Dave into the dual bnc input of another Dave will just bypass the WTA1 stage of the second Dave which I guess you could say could improve noise as that is a large portion of the FPGA use in Dave. Many have speculated if that is one of the reasons using the...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

you dont need an mscaler to get a windowed sinc function from chord, all of the dacs do this, the mscaler just uses a larger window

I bought this a few months back here on Head-Fi out of curiosity about lower end Chord dacs since all I had heard was Dave. The time has come to let it go. I think its a good sounding dac, I just don't have any real use for it. Comes with just the unit and the power supply, no original box or...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

I can run my mscaler with the camera connection kit off my iPhone 13 Pro just fine. Haven’t tried with the 14 pro yet, or into the Dave direct, but I would guess it’d be the same

I can also say that I recently switched to the Iconoclast gen2 RCA cables and though I am a cable skeptic, they made a meaningful difference in separation vs my previous blue jeans LC-1s

Hmm, I can contribute some female singers I like a lot too. First is a Chinese singer, G.E.M. A korean singer named Younha last, ill throw in something different, some female fronted power metal, love the power vocals here

I could be wrong, but maybe the differences between PCM+ and DSD+ modes are negated when bypassing the WTA1 filter anyways with HMS input. But I went looking for that comment from Rob Watts to see the context and couldn't find it, but search isn't always the best.

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

When it comes to volume control, I would caution against too much of a focus on dynamic range, just as we would all caution against too much of a focus on SINAD to judge a dac or amp. With a well implemented digital volume control, such as on the Dave, you might lose some theoretical dynamic...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

When I feed the M Scaler via USB, I have no issues. Whenever I feed it via optical or bnc from my pi2aes, any time I switch sample rates, there is a second or so of weird glitching. This seems to be independent of output sample rate as well. This doesn't occur when I feed the bnc or optical from...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

I did try running optical into the MScaler from my pi2aes, and it was very good, but I thought usb from my ultrarendu did just barely edge it out in refinement. As for connecting the MScaler and Dave with optical, im not willing to spend the money on the opto-dx kit to find out. Im also not...
