Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread
Aww man, As recent as January of this year, the price of MA900 was hovering around $170~ on amazon and ebay. Now they are almost $300! Is Sony MDR MA900 now officially discontinued? Now I really regret NOT buying a second MA900 so I can experiment with it (removing the resistor, for example)- TheBoss

i forgot the bass test link link, but it's a youtube clip that Lachlan (a_recording) used to to point out the bass flutter issue he had with his MDR Z7 headphone. Thank god my MDR 7550 is flutter-free in the bass region and has good left-right driver matching. the source by the way is...- TheBoss

Quote: Quote: Assuming that MA900 really is the continuation of the mdr f1 heritage..... MA900 should scale up when fed with 1 watt of class-a power, just like the MDR F1. http://www.audioreview.com/cat/headphones-home-audio/headphones/sony/mdr-f1/prd_118043_2750crx.aspx- TheBoss

Do you mean missing "hearing all that goodness" of 30-50hz ? I think that range is meant to be felt... ideally throughout the body... and not just locally to your head. ----- also, I think the ma900' sub bass and others like it becomes a non-issue when augmented with SubPac. In...- TheBoss

MA900 starts falling off the cliff @ 50hz.... and that's already subwoofer territory. In the near future I think it would be smart for (open, non-planar) headphone makers to just outsource all that sub bass frequencies to clever devices like this http://thesubpac.com/- TheBoss

ma900 is designed to be so open (no seal at all...) that I think it's a bit unrealistic to give it leveled subbass without sacrificing other freq ranges. to those who find sub bass really lacking with open headphones..... http://thesubpac.com/- TheBoss

Who here switches eartips based on what you want to listen to? For me, when I want to listen to a music album I use Monster Supertip gels to make the mid-bass less forward; for vocal such as watching TV dramas and anime I use stock hybrid tips. When it comes to consonant sounds I find both...- TheBoss

the phones you mentioned above are in the same league in sub bass If you're referring to post #1538... it's the overall distortion that raises eyebrows. k7xx better stay around ~$200 with such distortion figures!- TheBoss

My dream successor or version 2.0 for the MA900. 1. Retain the design of the MA900 - aluminum grills, magnesium hanger and headband skeleton. 2. Use MDR Z7 driver, but tune it for linear mids and improved soundstage+depth but not at the expense of "center" image... also would love...- TheBoss
