Headphone Suggestion for Lehmann Audio Rhinelander

I tested Lehmann Rhinelander amp, and just jumped back to Black Cube for relief. Big difference. The strange thing is, IMHO, they are probably the same amp, with fully regulated power stage in the latter.

How to get the best sound from my iMac?

Dont know about Dacmagic, but I had the oportunity to test a fubar, and it just came short of my expectations. My current setting includes Musical Fidelity V-DAC (you can get one for 150 pounds, 250 $ ?), and a Musical Fidelity X-Can V3 -350 $ no longer available, but who knows- Only thing...

Linux compatible USB DAC and headphone amp to drive HD-650s

My personal view, dont be fooled by the low price of the V-Dac. As many have already noticed in this forums, its results are not on pair with the price ! Anyway, you have a killer combination indeed. Your friends will not stop bothering you around until you invite them to your home !

    Musical Fidelity V-DAC Owners?

Hi guys ! Just ordered a MF V-DAC from my local retailer here in Barcelona (I had owned one, very pleased so far, but I gave it for a present to my buddy -my fault !) and -after a week wait, they told me it was no longer available. Apparently it had been dropped from the catalog in exchange for...

m-audio sound card - amp - headphones: Advise

As it was said, there is nothing like a good head-phone amplifier with some good cans. But in a pinch, I recently had the opportunity to test my pair of HD595 Sennheisers to an Audiolab 8000S integrated amplifier. It was almost indistinguishable from my Lehmann Cube Linear, at 3 times the price...

Linux compatible USB DAC and headphone amp to drive HD-650s

Best combo I know of, (and not the most expensive !) would be: -Musical Fidelity V-DAC. 250 € aprox. Maybe not the best, but very very 'sound' choice and it doesnt break the wallet. (Also, for USB-DACs, it is very tricky to speak of 'the best', dont believe anthything you hear ;-) -Lehmann...

    On the DAC...

Comparisons that would make sense in the amateur scene are against a good quality digital rig. You substitute your computer-dac system for your previously tested and appreciated CD reader. Maintain same amplifier-headphones and there we go ! Listen carefully several times. Possible you need to...

    Budget USB DACs

Musical Fidelity V-DAC. Welcome to Musical Fidelity 170 € (little over 200$). Specs unquestionable. 24 bit 192 KHz upsampling. 170 ps total jitter, signal-to-noise 116 dB. Weight 350g, nice solid built black metal case, Coax, Optical and USB inputs. As for results, all I can say is it takes...

    Laptop => [$500] ??? => Grado RS-1

Get a MF V-CAN tube triode preamp / headphone amp, with MF V-DAC. I won't break the wallet, and I bet quality is on par with anything. They are both small and integrate beautifully. Personally I use V-DAC with the superseded XCan V3, which I think is probably very similar to the V-Can. Very...

    USB DACs and uBuntu

I use Xubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) (The lightweight version of Ubuntu with XFce), and have been using V-DAC from Musical Fidelity with WIndows XP. Everything fine, but I read your post and said -Why not ? Till now, I tended to use the Windows box for music and more 'hardware intensive' duties, while...

How do you overcome fatigue-ing sound?

I agree completely with denl82 and with DefectiveAudio: Get some AKG (K701, but maybe also K501), and get some good music. Also, a good amp would help, possibly some people need a cross-feeding model (check Meier Audio on this). As for the Senns, they are good, and cause less fatigue...

senn 595 bass vs. k701 bass vs. 325i bass

I happen to own the K701 and the HD595. (And have briefly tested HD650s and HD600s). First off, both are excellent. And very different: K701: Natural sound. For classical music and voice, they sound the most similar to what you would hear in front of the orchestra. This is the utmost quality...

    Cambridge DACMagic, anyone?

Got just last week the Musical Fidelity V-DAC. 170 € here in Barcelona (some 200 $). Very, very pleased. I've been listening to it all week with a MF X-can V3 headphone amp and both AKGs K701 and Senn HD595, mainly from ape and flac file in my laptop. -also some CD. Sound is excellent. Depends...

    Musical Fidelity xcan v8

Ok, I admit to it - it is almost incredible that MF could market a clearly underpowered h-p amp. As I said, I do not own it, and never tested. Maybe I'll try to when I next pop up by my retailer.

    Musical Fidelity xcan v8

I happen to own the V3 XCan, Wonderful. A delight to listen to. Maybe my AKG7000 contributes a little also.. ;-P But what happens to the V8 ? It disturbs me that the only review that you get by googling a bit is downright negative. VERY negative. And its arguments sound sensible. quote...

How to get started in classical music?

I would like to contribute my two cents on how to 'continue' on classical music, not just starting. To that I'd advise following in our listenings the historical or 'natural' order that composers have followed before us. And trying to reach to a phase/stage as near as possible to our own...

    Bach: Keyboard Works

Another great Bach perfomer is Keith Jarrett. His version of Wohltemperierte Klavier is a constant source of pleasure and inspiration. Buch I is played at the piano, while Buch II is with cembalo. (or the other way 'round). He also also perfomed other 'minor' works, like the flute sonatas...
