The O2 is very powerful (drives K702 beyond ear bleeding) with low distortion and a very quiet power supply. Extremely transparent and effortless to the point of having no character whatsoever. A reference standard that everyone should have. Did I mention how loud and clean it can play?

I now have the Brainwavz XL large velour earpads on my K550, and I like them better than the stock pads: They're softer, not sticky, and there's more room inside. Seems these will be more durable too. Shame AKG can't make long lasting plastic materials: the headband and ear pads have flaked...

Choose mainly by long term comfort, so go try some on. I like my K240S for fit, lightness, ease to drive, and the detachable cord.   OTOH if I had ~$150 I would be looking for a used pair of K550....!

Detachable cable on AKG K550? Yes, please!   On my K240S I regularly switch between the stock long cable and the DIY short cable I made for laptop use.

Is there an update to summarize the options on which velour ear pads fit the AKG K240S?

A mini3 will easily drive ANY dynamic headphones.

If you (or a friend) knows how to solder, then this amp is a no brainer. No better performance at almost any cost.

But Jasmine Serenade (I presume you're referring to?) doesn't have the same tubes, and their specs don't look like they were cut n pasted to the Sweet-2 page, as Glow's does. Line for line, the specs are the same between Sweet and Amp One. Just sayin'...

This is one hella coincidence, but the Sweet-2 has exactly same specs and tubes as the Glow Amp One. If I didn't know better I'd say it was a clone with remote. I don't know if that's good or bad, but not showing a pic of the remote control is weak.

But no preamp outputs? Pity. Seems a workaround to use hp outputs for preamp.

Also, with new headphones (or speakers), you'd want to listen to all your old recordings to see what you were missing.

K701 bass goes deep and tuneful (like a good subwoofer), and highs go high and airy. So if you're listening to perfect recordings with these qualities, then it's good. But for more normal crappy recordings, I like my K240S better. K240S is just a better all-rounder and has nice upper and middle...

There was a period in the 80s when all the manufacturers (Koss comes to mind) would label ordinary stuff 'digital ready.' The tacked-on 'HD' reminds me of that if there's no actual technical improvement.

Does anyone have more opinions on good bang for the buck wireless (not Bluetooth) headphones? Am I correct in assuming with the built-in amp, it could play louder than wired headphones from laptop?

Now that AKG is Harman Intl, I doubt anything unusual ever gets done. My dad got his K340 the same time I got my K240 in 1985. Both still sound great. His are a bit edgy and heavy in comparison. I prefer my K240 and my new K240 Studio.
