  The HD598 is a very warm headphone, and has a slightly congested sound, it's not expansive. The tone is not neutral, and it's not exactly a detailed powerhouse. The bass is no more or no less than the HD600, just different.    IMO the HD600 sound-signature is better overall, more balanced...

    Here's an option. The LG Stylus DAB+ Smartphone, it has a good audio DAC and also has DAB Radio. Cheaper than many DAPs.

Chinky, fizzy, static with FM radio.   What would be much better is a DAP with DAB Radio. I had a DAP from iRiver 5 years ago which had DAB Radio, and the sound was great, no interference or static, and it allowed me to record the songs too! The signal is much more reliable with DAB.
