I keep my Ipod connected to my amp with a bling bling either in my jacket pocket or backpack and haven't had any issues with it. I too was originally worried about it's durability, but it's not like it's made out of tissue or something. You would have to really abuse it to snap the wires.

Just an fyi.... Someone is selling new E500 on ebay with a buy it now for around $229. If I remember correctly he had aver 20 of them for sale.

You might want to give it till tommorow. Most IEM's will suffer reduced volume if any moisture gets inside. Since you were using it at the gym there is a good chance this is the culprit.

If you don't like the UM-2 or the E500 you probably won't find anything that you like without an amp. Before you give up hope though, are you using lossless or lame -preset extreme? I've found that most lower quality encodings (anything less than 256VBR) can sound harsh.

One other thing to consider is the quality of your encodings. If your not listening to at least 256 VBR lame, then I would suggest fixing that first. I had a couple of albums that I had encoded at 192 a bunch of years back and they sounded rather harsh and anoying even through shure e500s. I...

Your probably better off the E500 compared to the UE-10 unless you need them for performing on stage etc. All the reviews I read that compared the two found the E500 sounds as good if not better than the UE-10. With the UE-10 the bulk of that expense is labor.
