$100 laptop solution: seeking advice on specific options
The DAC-AH is *about*5 inches wide, 2 inches tall, and 8 inches deep. I wouldn't get it if you're looking for portability as it requires AC power. I hope this reply helped!- eladioc

Circuit error in Lite DAC-AH: Easy fix
ok so i'm staring at the PCB of my DAC-AH. I see the resistors over R35 and R36. So what I should do is solder 330 ohm resistors to the existing resistors on R35 and R36? What is a good way to go about this? Any help with technique? So my final product will have two resistors (270 and 330)...- eladioc

Circuit error in Lite DAC-AH: Easy fix
kim, could you take a picture of the inside of your dac and point out where the resistors go? I've never soldered before so i'd like as much knowledge as possible before I go at it. Any (more) help would be greatly appreciated. Even if you don't want to, thanks a lot for IDing the problem and...- eladioc

Closed Headphones for College
it sounds like you want the Audio Technica A900. Closed, circumaural, no need of amplification (good straight out of any source), well-rounded, comfortable, etc. You won't need to wear it out since you have UM1's, so portability isn't an issue. I got my pair from audiocubes.com for $198 shipped...- eladioc

I don't know about feeling the "weight" of the cord; the cord is light and if you wear it properly, it stays out of your way (unless you're wearing a backpack... the cord can get caught on it and it will tug on your ears). If you're not playing any music you can hear the microphonics, or the...- eladioc

DAC-AH: Help in diagnosing distortion I'm hearing (kind of long)
so... what do we do? Something must be wrong with me because i'm looking at an entech number cruncher (only ~$50!). Actually I'd really like to get my dac running at full potential. I'm at -13 db and I still hear some fuzziness but that could also be the fault of the source file. Does the...- eladioc

Headphones for trance?
Oh and I did get the K240S. They're certainly very comfortable, though a bit heavy. I can't quite get used to the sound... they're a little cloudy? muddy? unclear. I suppose a cable upgrade would help, but stock they lack the punch and detail of the K81DJ's. They opened my eyes to the world of...- eladioc

Headphones for trance?
So a lot has changed since I started this thread. I'm listening to trance as I type through my K81's driven by an Original Master (yeah I got a PA2v2... it's with my portable right now. I never have time for it though! I like it more than my cmoy for more reasons than just the sound). If it...- eladioc

DAC-AH: Help in diagnosing distortion I'm hearing (kind of long)
Wow... I just had the same issue that I brought up in the cables, power, etc. forum yesterday because I thought it might be the power. I lowered the output in foobar and the clipping went away for the most part. I think there might be some placebo effect when I listen to my "reference" songs to...- eladioc

Good Circumaural Cans for under $80?
AKG K240S for ~$80 on eBay. They are all right sounding (personally I prefer the K81 to them), I started to pick up on the muddy bass after extended listening. They are very comfortable though, so that is a definite plus. There are ways to mod them to improve the sound, so you can consider a...- eladioc
