Checking mechanics on an old turntable
I don't have any experience with that particular model, but I think that most older Thorens are worth restoring to a point. The Analog Dept. has a page of various TD-150 tidbits. It will probably need a new belt, assuming it hasn't been replaced. Ask about the condition of the...- sschell

need some education on VINYL/TURNTABLES
You need an analog to digital (ADC) converter. These come at all different price ranges. The lowest-end ones are similar to the ones found in most soundcards and turntables with a built-in USB output. Above that are the entry level recording products: add-on PCI soundcards and external...- sschell

need some education on VINYL/TURNTABLES
The chain is turntable > phono stage (found in an integrated amp, receiver, or separately as a phono preamp) > amplifier (if you're using a separate phono preamp. If not, ignore this) > speakers or headphones. I can't give you a bottom line dollar amount, but you'll probably end up spending...- sschell

Boots..not shoes
I like my boots from L.L. Bean (made by Chippewa Boots) a lot. Definitely uncomfortable at first, but some thicker socks and replacement insoles help.- sschell

Stax 007T
I believe the primary change from mkI to mkII was to make the newer version compliant with RoHS regulations. I've heard there is some difference between the two circuitry-wise, but I'm not aware of any claims that they sound different from each other.- sschell

lacie sound quality?
I believe he's referring to the speakers in the link. Only the top-end model appears to have any real speaker engineering behind it (Cabasse). That said, it's frequency response is only rated down to 80 Hz. I'd pass.- sschell

Poll: Favorite headphones to get lost in the music II (price no factor)
Of those, I've heard the K1000's, HE90's, R10's, and the OII's all at a single meet. The whole experience was pretty overwhelming from the sheer sense of sonic awesomeness. I voted for the OII's since I picked up a pair a few months later, and thus, have the most listening experience with out...- sschell

Question: What is banana connector?
...so no, it won't work on your Opera. You'll need a cable that terminates with a 1/4" plug if you want to use the 'phones with it.- sschell

FLAC-The Best way to get it
FLAC doesn't have set bitrates. It does have compression settings, which affects the size of the output file, but not the fidelity. Hydrogenaudio has pretty nice configuration guides for EAC. This one deals specifically with FLAC configuration. EDIT: Beaten by the above poster.- sschell

Two conductor cable for tonearm rewire
My main concern is the flexibility of the shield, since the non-RCA end of the cable is connected to a screw terminal, so I need to be able to twist the shield to connect it to one of the screws. Are all shields of similar malleability? The Belden 9221 appears to have a similar capacitance...- sschell

Two conductor cable for tonearm rewire
I guess what I'm asking is if there would be an appreciable (audible) difference between using a twisted pair vs. a coax cable for unbalanced audio over a distance ~6 feet?- sschell

I'm not sure how finicky I should to be about cable choice. If the Mogami doesn't have any glaring technical/application flaws, awesome. Has anyone tried something like this?- sschell

Two conductor cable for tonearm rewire
My tonearm's wiring is connected to a terminal strip. From the terminal strip, two bare wire to RCA cables are connected. I'm looking to replace the latter cables. Unfortunately, most of the cables I've seen recommended for interconnect usage are single conductor with a shield. So I guess I'm...- sschell
