I would  Agree, it's a matter of the whole set. I find HD-800 transparent and neutral in the sense that it reveals the quality both of the record and of the electronics used.

Probably it's because you have an amp which is diffrent from some other amps, one that sounds just right with HD-800.

i would suggest a source as detailed as possible, an amp that is maybe a little warmish + HE-560 - and there you have it!

I think it's good to have another phone just to compare at times. I have right now HD-600 beside T1, Planning HD-600> HE-400i, T1> coming successor of HE-6 (will there be one?)

I'm simple-minded, I try to seek well-recorded music and choose gear to make that shine in the best possible way. Not that it wouldn't be more or less complicated in real life. Most often I find myself listening to classical or other well-recorded (acoustic) music. Whether they are "audiophile"...

Maybe HE-560 and T1 for example are phones whose tonal balance you can alter to the direction you wish, at least to some degree, with phones like HE-500 or HD-650 that might be a little more challenging, don't know...

You are probably not the only one. Of course there is or will be HE-400i, but has it got the the certain refinement of HE-500 (which I think HE-500 has though being a little dark sounding...)? Sorry, a little off-topic...

In January I found T1 as new at a local store 650 euros (ca 870 dollars). The price of HE-560 is/will be here 899 euros (ca 1200 dollars).
