Burson V6 Vivid and V6 Classic Discrete Audio Opamps Discussion and Reviews

There's a dedicated thread about V7 Pro op-amps, but you can also have a look to my measurements and thoughts when combining V7 Classic with Vivid.

Burson V6 Vivid and V6 Classic Discrete Audio Opamps Discussion and Reviews

Thanks for sharing, looks a very good hybrid opamp, though much higher in height than the hybrid Burson V5i, so it may not fit well in some designs. However, some head-fiers might still prefer discrete op-amps instead of hybrid ones, hence V6 and V7 remain a very good choice for audio devices...

Burson V6 Vivid and V6 Classic Discrete Audio Opamps Discussion and Reviews

By looking inside Violectric V380² I see that the transformer has 2x18 VAC outputs, so I assume that 2x18 VDC are powering the op-amps and the output stage too. Take care on overheating and maybe damaging those V6 and V7, given that V6 can't support voltages above 33V (+/-16.5V). Same about the...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

I can assure you that Soloist 3X Grand Tourer is one of the fewest amps able to drive these cans to their full potential, so I totally recommend this amplifier to pair with ABYSS or with any other hard-to-drive pair of headphones. Now I'm listening to OSI since about an hour, it's past midnight...

Burson V6 Vivid and V6 Classic Discrete Audio Opamps Discussion and Reviews

There's an entire thread you might want to read about Playmate here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new-burson-playmate-9038-dac-2wpc-headamp-preamp-changeable-opamps.894619/. I/V would be the first op-amps you might want to swap, but still reading the above thread might help more.

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

might help, but please check also https://www.bursonaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Opamp-Install.jpg and https://www.circuits-diy.com/ne5532-dual-low-noise-op-amp-datasheet/#NE5532_Pinout too. I would suggest you to do exactly what Burson told you to. I suppose you might be better off to...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

I would vote to a mix between the two V7 Pro models, Vivid + Classic, as I already mentioned here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/burson-v7-classic-pro-and-v7-vivid-pro-hi-fi-audiophile-solid-state-op-amps.971554/post-17970369, but YMMV, of course. I see that there are some SO-8 soldered...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

I might try adding some soft padding under the fan to see if the noise will decrease, but lowering fan speed is totally not recommended given that internal temperature can dramatically increase.

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

Voyager has a fan too, but its size, placement and the aerodynamics inside makes it virtually noiseless.

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

With all the upgrades you have done (5A Supercharger, V7 op-amps, SP2 modules) I think you're pretty close to it, so no worries about. :)

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

My Soloist 3X Grand Tourer 2023 Model was taking 74 Watts without any audio signal going in, as per https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/burson-audio-soloist-3x-grand-tourer.25668/reviews#review-31286. I haven't measured power consumption when driving low sensitivity cans, but I'm guessing that the...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

If you have the original / default power supply use that one. A brief introduction about these Superchargers can be also read here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/burson-supercharger-low-noise-power-supplies-24v-5a-24v-3a.971942/, but like @pokrog said already it could be the supply causing you...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

I see people talking here about the SuperCharger and I felt that I needed to create a dedicated thread for this: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/burson-supercharger-low-noise-power-supplies-24v-5a-24v-3a.971942/. I really think that might worth adding your thoughts about this very low-noise...

Burson Supercharger - low noise power supplies - 24V/5A, 24V/3A

I had the opportunity to test the 24V/5A Supercharger from Burson Audio and I find it being indeed a very low-noise one. The AC ripple & noise is incredible low for a SMPS power supply, but there's also a complete lack of audible noise coming from it. All my TVs are having a high pitch noise, my...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

Given the smaller size, the outer aluminum case / heatsink and the higher bias current I would anytime vote for the V7 Pro. But now, depending on the audio equipment and the actual stage where you'd like to swap op-amps, the sound differences may not be perceived.

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

A dual op-amp basically contains two operational amplifiers inside, e.g.: one for the left channel, the other one for the right channel (or one for V+ and another one for V-, if balanced signal). It's up to the designer if will choose single or dual op-amps, but most amplifiers contain dual...

Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer Head Amp/Pre Amp w/Sub out - 10W XLR

Thanks Eugene, the main V7 thread is active as well here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/burson-v7-classic-pro-and-v7-vivid-pro-hi-fi-audiophile-solid-state-op-amps.971554/. The best combination found was presented here...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

The gain stage (or voltage amplification stage) should benefit most of the op-amps upgrade in amplifiers, but in some devices the input and output stages could be "sensitive" to op-amps upgrades as well.

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

I had them tried in Soloist 3X GT 2023 here and I find the combination of Vivid + Classic as sounding a bit better for my taste, but YMMV.

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

Technically speaking I see the following differences: - the housing / outer case made of aluminum is definitely better than plastic or free air; - the inside transistors benefit of "free" heatsink due to the aluminum case; - V7 has an increased bias current for the class-A output stage (thanks...

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

If you're happy with the sound then leave it as it is, but if you happen to borrow a six-pack of V7 then give it a try and do let us know if you like how it sounds. For me the 3X GT 2023 seems to sound a bit more detailed with the V7 Pro vs. the V6.

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

Hmmm...you might be better off if you would drop an email to Burson, just in case they might figure out for you a vendor on your continent. You might need to wait a bit more, but this way you might save some money.

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

It's nice that they made quite detailed pics about how to properly mount these op-amps: https://www.bursonaudio.com/products/supreme-sound-opamp-v7/. I'll also attach a couple of pics below and a short movie I recently made about it, hope this helps: I've tested the new V7 Pro op-amps under...
