  The S.E.X. is a criminally underrated amp. I was down at the SF Head-Fi meet a couple years ago and it was by far my favorite for both the HE-6 and AKG K1000s. The power it produces is incredible and it just exudes synergy. You will see more benefit on the HE-6, but the HE-500 is very similar...

You know, I am not positive. I believe so... I'll have to check out the site to make sure what they look like. The bass tuning is so an element with these. So far, the bass is slightly overwhelming bit I think the right amp can balance it out. I'm liking the mods and higher range so far.

I am a big fan of the Magni/Modi combo for an Office Setup. I think the Modi is quite the DAC for the price and I can store both on top of each other in my little cabinet drawer.   The only downfall is I have a lot of people coming over to my cube to ask me what the heck all of it is... 

I also get really irritated by rubbing of earpads. The wonderful thing about the HD800's is that they basically enclose your ear vs. sit on them.   I have a rather embarrassing story, but when I first got HD800s I put them on backwards. That lasted actually quite a while, and i found them not...

  I had a similar issue as you described with the AD900x; however, it seemed like this either went away after burn-in or I was about to use different equalizer settings to kind of minimize the distortion.
