Totally unrelated but did you have an amp for your 400s before Lyr2 and if so did you notice a big difference when you upgraded?  Would you say its worth the $450?

Jerg,   What do you think about the pads?  Are they jergpad-esque in sound?  Looks like they can fit on the HE400/500.

Maybe.  I've also read that the differences between the Magni and Vali are subtle which probably wouldn't be worth the $120 for me.  I'd rather put that towards a more capable amp like the Lyr but I'm not even sure thats worth the money either.

I've made this argument before, its not well received around these parts but its true.  Hang around /r/headphones on reddit and you'll start to notice that there are quite a few people popping up looking to "upgrade from Beats" or people who previously had Beats but now own "good" headphones...

One thing is for sure, if you're sensitive to the DT990s sibilance, the magni is not going to be doing you any favors.  Whether or not it makes it audibly worse is debatable but it certainly doesn't make it any better.

I would be buying them more for comfort than sonic improvement so my concern isn't that they won't improve the SQ enough...my concern is that they will make it worse.  If SQ doesn't change, I would be a happy camper.
