Grace Design x Massdrop m9XX DAC/Amp Review: First Impressions
I just received mine, which I intend to pair with my TH-X00's. Since those are out on loan, I decided to try them with my Beyer T1's. To my surprise, the T1's sound great with this amp (though the volume is up to 85), better than with my Project Solstice. I thought that they would be too hard to...- gbremer

$15 cup of coffee
Coffee quality can be pretty surprising. During our roadtrip earlier this year, my wife and I had double espressos at a random gas station just south of Passa dello Stelvio in Italy that was better than most coffees I've had here in the US. I think we paid less than 3 euros. Go figure...- gbremer

The decline of the New York accent
I'm not sure that it's necessarily declining. Rather that the gentrification of neighborhoods in Manhattan (and to a lesser extent Brooklyn) brings in people who didn't grow up here and therefore don't have the accent. I find that people who grow up here definitely have that accent, and people...- gbremer

Nothing lasts forever
I'm not sure that losing the moon would be a good thing for the planet. If I understand the science correctly, the tidal force exerted by the moon on the earth is one of the factors that make life here possible for a variety of reasons.- gbremer

The decline of briefcases
Also, many jobs these days have no use for a briefcase. I do all of my work on computers and if for some reason I need to do any work from home I use a VPN connection. The only thing I bring to/from work is a travel mug. So much of that style was based on the rise of "white collar" jobs, and...- gbremer

I'm gonna try mint jelly with lamb
I like to try new things myself. When I was in Paris a few weeks ago, I tried Andouillette sausage. It's NOTHING like the cajun style Andouille sausage you would find in the US (look it up in wikipedia). It's basically a coarsely ground sausage made of pork tripe and seasoning. It has a gamey...- gbremer

People love convenience stores
I used to love 7-E as we called it because you could get just about any common item you might need. Now that I don't eat "junk food" anymore I almost never go to a convenience store unless I'm driving a long way and need a restroom. I also live in a small town now and I try to support only the...- gbremer

Buying everything used
I tend to buy most things new. The main exception is camera equipment, which since I like using classic cameras I can only buy used. I guess you could consider the expired film I buy on ebay "used" as well, even though it would have no value to me if it was actually used by someone. I sometimes...- gbremer

What do you do when listening to music?
At this point, I do most of my listening at work, with driving in my car second. Having my music playing really helps me get through the work day even when I don't pay the closest attention to it. Sometimes it is a distraction though ;) I don't listen to music much at home since I got married...- gbremer

On and off switch for the nose
Definitely agree on this one! It's not just restrooms either. I don't know exactly what combination of nasty things NYC subways actually smell like, but I'd prefer not to smell it.- gbremer

The decline of downtown
Actually, NYC is a really interesting case. Because of how crazy the cost to live in the city has become, many people are moving up into the Hudson Valley an hour or two north. Former run down industrial towns like Beacon are being slowly transformed and the neighborhoods cleaned up. Old...- gbremer

The decline of downtown
It really depends on the town and surrounding area, but for the most part you're correct. Many towns in the Hudson Valley are seeing their downtowns come back, while in other areas of NY if it's not a tourist destination things look bleak. I drove through Greenwich NY on my way home from Vermont...- gbremer

Fried Chicken in 1887
If you're going to fry something, I see no reason to hold back. Lard, butter, cream et al have gotten a bad rap. It's the unrestrained eating that's really unhealthy. Moderation would be a much better way to stay healthy. Of course, that takes willpower which I personally find in short supply...- gbremer

Sesame Street means a lot to me
It's funny, I don't remember really watching anything until I was five or six. By then, my favorite was any Looney Tunes, but especially Bugs Bunny. I guess that's why I have a weakness for The Simpsons and South Park today. I love the subversive humor. My sisters and brother watched a lot of...- gbremer

Be careful of sharks
My cousin was attacked by a big tiger shark in Maui a few weeks ago while snorkeling with his kids. Tore up is arm and thigh pretty good. Fortunately he thought to punch it repeatedly in the part of its snout where it's particularly sensitive and got away.- gbremer

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens HD trailer
Episode 1 was such a total fail IMO that I didn't bother seeing the others in the theater. After watching on cable I'm very glad I didn't. I saw the original several times in the theater in '77 and it made a huge impression on my teenage mind. My disappointment at ep 1-3 was immense. I thought...- gbremer

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens HD trailer
As an official episode 1-2-3 hater, judging strictly from the previews and what I know about the people making the film there's almost no way that this wont be an improvement. We'll see.- gbremer
