Rockbox Xduoo X3
The x3 just is hot. Whatever. Does not want to charge anymore, also not with new battery. End of story. Back to my fiio X5 "original".- TonyVier

Rockbox Xduoo X3
Well, found a battery at the local mobile phone repair guy, its only 1000mah, but hee. (if it works, I think I can fit two in parallel). Returning it and so, well, it's complicated.- TonyVier

Rockbox Xduoo X3
Ok. Suddenly, at least in my perception, the system info appeared, no need to reset the x3. I opened up the x3, let it rest a while without battery, and started it again. The battery remains cool, the main board gets egg frying hot without charging, just playing a song.- TonyVier

Rockbox Xduoo X3
That what I guessed. However, why does the x3 crash when I want to look at "system information" on the original firmware? Can't explain this by a faulty battery.... The system information page worked fine before the rockbox flash....- TonyVier

Rockbox Xduoo X3
After a few happy days, disaster.... Noticed that playing through Rockbox reduced battery life to about 45 minutes, and made the X3 very hot. Very Hot. Charging, from whatever firmware, made the X3 also very hot, and it never seemed to get full. Ai. (used it for a short while...- TonyVier

XDuoo X3 DSD 24Bit / 192KHz CS4398 Chip Lossless Music Player
Ok, bought the x3, paid 88usd. First impression on Unique Melody Miracle, sounds better than my (original) fiio x5. Still on original fw 1.1. Until now, don't see (hear) need to rockbox. Played by folder on x5.- TonyVier

Ok, got my UM Miracles today. They sound fine, but not 5 times better than my TDK BA200. They fit great. And I did a lot of a/b-ing with the X5 and E12DIY (with Muses01 and LME49600) The X5 (+ Miracles) doesn't need the E12DIY. At all.- TonyVier

Same here. Clicks seem to have become louder in the X5 after using it a while. Makes me a bit afraid the relays will fail after some time. Unless this is a normal kind of behavior. James? Click sound levels seem stable now, and X5 behaves as it should.- TonyVier

So you can listen to the background noise of the big bang. Or was that 128 bits?- TonyVier

Yes, if card reader is USB 3.0, X5 is sadly USB 2.0 For DAC driver you need to allow for unsigned device drivers. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-can-i-install-hardware-with-unsigned-drivers-in-windows-8/- TonyVier

Ok, thanks to dontblameyourears in Jakarta I got my muses01 today. Even to my relatively untrained ears this changes tbe X5 / E12DIY combi a lot. It becomes warmer, and gives the bass more body. Switching back to HPO of the X5, the sound stage seems a bit wider, but the treble suddenly seems to...- TonyVier

FiiO E12DIY Limited Edition Version---DIY your own sound !
Today I tried my Koss ksc 75 on my E12DIY, still with AD8620 and LME49600 (MUSES01 on the way) and wow. What a nice airy sound, and wonderful soundstage. After listening to the Koss for a while the Grado 325's and TDK BA200 sound dull. So, my MUSES01 and UM Miracles are on the way, and I am...- TonyVier

Hmmm. Since I use IEM's with some quality, my Grado 325's are not used anymore. I like the absence of outside noise and IEM's have a sort of intimacy, "closeness" the Grado's have not.- TonyVier

Also zero issues with the X5, until today. When I was ABing, switching plugs etc, the X5 at one time just showed snow on the screen. Everything fine again after a restart. Yes the trebles. I did ABing with just one good 24/96 track, now I have listened to some more tracks, and the E12DIY is...- TonyVier

FiiO X7 | DXD | DSD | 384K/64B | ESS9018+ Android | WiFi | Bluetooth | 4 AMP modules | Balanced Out |
If compared to the X5, USB 3.0 Cheaper Memory possibilities , maybe build memory 512gb or so, or normal size SD cards People seem to like the E12 amp , build that one in than, some extra power too. Less clunky interface, (I can live with the X5 though) Hope you don't go the Android...- TonyVier

Ok, if there is consensus about a better sounding X5 with a E12 diy, I will need one of those. More bulk to carry around. FYI, pairing the X5 with a PHA 1 or iBasso D Zero doesn't help. At all. BTW, did anyone pair the X5 with Behringer TRUTH B3031A speakers or similar, if so, how did that...- TonyVier
