OPPO HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier/DAC Discussion Thread

As far as I'm concerned, Oppo is miles ahead of FiiO. They gave me the best sales service of any audio-related company operating in the US, bar none. I would say they are very intelligent, and a few missing cables are not going to change that. If I were Sony, I would be very concerned with...

OPPO HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier/DAC Discussion Thread

Hi everyone! I can't believe that I actually read the whole thread. Gosh, 88 pages and growing... :) I have a quick question for anyone than can help:   Storage size aside, between an iPod Touch 64 GB + Oppo HA-2 vs a Sony NW-ZX2, both using either Neutron Player or Poweramp, driving a...

    The Fiio X5 Thread

X5's SQ is much better than J3's and D3's. With EQ off there is really no contest. But, Cowon's sound enhancements, if you are not a sound purist, can make a dramatic difference. X5's EQ is pretty basic; too basic, in fact. I stopped using my Cowons for good, but should I absolutely need a...

I don't hear any noise or crackling on my X5 on any of my 10+ headphones/IEMs. It's very likely that you have a faulty unit. The X5 is well known for its black background.

I too had the impression that something changed in the sound when going fw 2.2, using the same track. But, as you said, there is just too much space for auditory errors in a before/after listening session. My feeling is that the sound got "thinner", but that's just a very subjective sensation...

OK, you just let me know the particular issues and product discussions that are accepted/needed/allowed and I promise I will stick to them. You act like if you were the owner of the thread, so I'd better do what I'm told, I'd prefer no to be chased by the forum censorship brigade. Feel free...

    The Fiio X5 Thread

What can I say? You are right on everything you say about me. When I have nothing to add to this already ginormous thread, I just stay quiet. What I have most experience and information is related to X5 firmware issues and "questionable" anecdotes regarding a more than normal rate of returns to...

    The Fiio X5 Thread

Sad to read that yet another customer is returning the X5 for a firmware/UI issue. Last time I said that FiiO was losing money because the firmware was not mature, I was basically called a troll. Perhaps, someone at FiiO has already realized how increasingly important a good, mature, well...

Three things:   1) Thank you! This is very welcome! 2) Please, please, please consider making a more powerful balance control setting for the X5. There are thousands of users that need more panning control. And if you build an E12 with a hardware balance control, you will sell them by the...

    The Fiio X5 Thread

The only logical explanation must be that it is a bug extremely difficult to solve from a firmware programming point of view. I'm happy with the cumulative improvements, though. However, the 2x128GB mSD owners will not be so happy to learn this file limit was not addressed.

You are right on the burden of proof, but is a moot point on a tech-related public forum. Does everyone have to provide proof for any statement made on a public forum? Really? In any case, I don't care. The X3 or the X5 both have a very different (and lesser) UI than an iPod. It's irrelevant...

How am I supposed to back up a point in a way that's not possible? Can you back up your point in any statistical way? Can you prove me wrong?   You can only have stats of something that is measured regularly, accurately and you have complete access to. Otherwise, it's not called stats. I'm...

James: I just know one of the employees at the returns department, and when I did return the E12 he told me about the X3 and the X5 being returned because people can't use the UI properly or they were expecting something different. B&H have an automatic open box re-sale of returned items on...

Stats? Of this? Really? That's always an easy way to dismiss whatever it's being discussed. Let me turn it around for you: stats that it didn't happen or it did happen.

You are right in that they have recently started to release beta firmware updates in the last weeks, but the player has been in the market for months now. If FiiO keep the speed of releases they have now, I guess they will be solving a lot of bugs pretty soon. I was mostly talking about how...

The problem with this line of thinking is forgetting that the Apple iPods that started with those very bad firmwares were also the pioneers of the DAP industry, many years ago. Nowadays, you do not need several months to research and discover how to make a simple piece of code read correctly a...

The standard they need to follow is their own, if any. They are not Sony, nor Apple, nor do they have their deep pockets to happily lose money, do they? However, simple things like properly reading track tags are mandatory for a high-fi DAP. And if you are going to fit 2 mSD slots in the DAP...

I mostly agree with you. But, I think FiiO is hurting its own business and future by selling a product with an immature firmware and set of capabilities. Or, at least, selling it and not being fast enough to bringing it up to speed before people start to complain and possible buyers take notice...

Of course it is a bug. No audio player that I know would skip the first two seconds of a song for any reason whatsoever. At the most, it would delay the start of the song for those two seconds, but the song would play from the very first second. This is a top ten X5 bug for me.

It means On The Go, that actually means that you can connect things to an USB port of a mobile device that supports it. Normally, the USB port of, say, a phone, is for charging and syncing. With USB OTG, you can use that port (if enabled by hardware and software) to connect a flash drive or a...

For what it's worth, both mSD cards get disconnected from my Mac from time to time, both randomly and without any input from me. One minute they are connected and transferring data, and the next they disappear from the Finder, with the usual warning about it. Some songs and folders do get...

I was –and still am– very critical of both the X5 and the way FiiO manages some issues. But, the X5 is a great DAP, and I am enjoying it more and more everyday, even with its issues. I don't think there's a better DAP for the money, and the 2 mSD slots and OTG storage makes the X5 the most...

You have a point, and it's a good one. I just don't think that 128GB mSD cards are a good buy at the actual prices, but everyone is free of disposing of their income as they see it fit. In the States, it can be argued that the easy of returns and the warranties are so good that the...
