Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]
I've used those pads. They're certainly nice enough for what they cost. I've heard the foam in them isn't as dense as the legitimate grado pads, which might change the sound a bit, but I haven't verified that.- chanman

I honestly haven't seen it in person, I didn't feel like waiting a couple weeks, so I made spacers out of pvc fittings. They were of very similar dimensions, and were pretty much entirely covered by the pads, so I'd assume you wouldn't see much of them. The polished alumide apparently looks...- chanman

Looks to be more like $40 actually, as shipping outside of a handful of places is $20 for some reason... But yeah, enjoy. You'll be the second person to purchase a pair. I asked the first one to follow up with how well they worked for modding but he never did. He didn't come back complaining (or...- chanman

Yep. that's exactly what I did for my MS1000. Shameless plug here, but If you're looking for something more precise, I CAD'ed a spacer design a while ago and posted it on shapeways, which will 3-D print them and ship them around the world. However it's not too cheap and takes a long time...- chanman

Some generic super glue I found in a drawer seems to have done the trick. I'm having difficulty keeping the pads in place on the spacers, as my DIY attempt didn't make a very elegant flange for the pads to stick on, worst case scenario i glue them on there I guess. But overall I'm liking the...- chanman

Grado modders go Magnum
Hi guys. I'm looking to try out some magnums in my MS1000. If anyone has on older pair of drivers lying around. v2-v4 preferably, that they no longer want after upgrading, i'd give you a bit of cash for them. Thanks!- chanman

Quick question, what would you recommend for use as glue? I decided I didn't want to wait 2 weeks for some nice 3d printed ones and fashioned a couple out of some pvc pipe. Just waiting for the pads to come in.- chanman

Love the review. If you're looking for more candidates, the VModa M80 is pretty spectacular for it's price point imo. Got mine for $80. Might not work with your large head though.- chanman

Based on what I've seen on the site, I don't think it would be much more than $20-25 per cup, even if you got fancy with it, as long as you keep the material usage reasonable. However it seems that all of their plastics are non-rigid. Alumide seems to be the closest thing they have to a rigid...- chanman

Alessandro MS1000 Owner/Appreciation Thread.
You can get them 3-d printed here https://www.shapeways.com/designer/chanman209 i did the CADing. They're 14mm tall, with a 40mm hole. The wall thickness is 2mm, and the lip on the end extends 3mm further out. You can get them done in a variety of materials, i'd suggest alumide, as it's cheap...- chanman

So you can get distancers 3d printed from here. I did the CADing. A pair in alumide will cost you $25 shipped. The specs are in-line with those on the first page. https://www.shapeways.com/designer/chanman209 It's cheaper to do some DIY, but the novelty of this is kind of cool. I...- chanman

High End IEM's with mic
The UE900's are a very nice IEM. You very well might be perfectly satisfied with them and not feel the need to spend a whole lot more money for marginal benefits. That being said, if you do feel the need to upgrade further, feel free to send them my way.- chanman

High End IEM's with mic
Quote: I would seriously reconsider dropping $1300 on universal IEMs, when you can get top-tier customs instead. There's not reason to leave comfort to chance with that amount to spend. I'm not quite sure what exactly you're looking for in a signature, as i'm not familiar with those IEMs...- chanman

Choosing the right earphone
Shure SE215 isn't exactly lacking in the bass department. Build quality is top notch too. Hell the cables even detach. It's more mid bass than sub bass though.- chanman

Your favourite "not the best" headphones?
V-moda M80. Sort of a poor-mans unamplified hd650, except portable. Warm, relaxing sound, with quite a bit of a treble veil and some a little extra mid-bass thrown in.- chanman
