Need help, Sony Discman D-9, DAC output cap location

I came across a Sony D-9 recently and thought I'd try to bring it back from the dead. At first, the Discman would not read the CD's, it would just turn off after several attempts reading the disc. I took it apart and greased the rails and now it can play CDs again.    Unfortunately, there is a...

    The DIY Discman Repair Thread

I think you are reading too closely into the Service Manual. You might want to go straight to the next step: 3-2 Cabinet (Front) Assy, MD Assy Removal.   That will give you access to the laser and the main circuit board.

    The DIY Discman Repair Thread

Hi BlackWolfe,   What a coincidence. I happen to have one of these brand new still in the box. I think you need to unscrew it from the bottom and lift the tray up to expose the circuit board and the laser assembly.   I got my hands on a Sony D-451SP earlier in the day and had a very similar...

    ATH-M50 Removable Cable Mod

I found some 3.5 mm male-to-male couplers (2 for $1.71 USD) for those that want a tangle free experience with their M50s. http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/264374422.html

Weird noise from Ultrasone Pro 900 + Fiio E17

Try swapping out the cable. The cable is threaded so check to make sure it is screwed into the left cup and not the other way around.

    Kramer-mod... KSC75...

Just ran a quick test on the amp. The left driver was the first to crack when pushed (buzzing). I think these will sound OK when I swap it out with the right driver of another set.      Quote:

    Kramer-mod... KSC75...

Here something to consider. When I max out the volume with bassy music on my Sansa, the KSC75's cries uncle, but that same Sansa player has no problem driving my Porta Pros, PX-100 or Ultrasone Pro 900s. My sound card on my laptop doesn't go as loud as my Sansa but when the volume is maxed out...

    Kramer-mod... KSC75...

I would agree with you because they are so cheap to purchase. But I also own a pair of Porta Pros before these and have no problems pumping up the volume without the sound quality going all sloppy. The drivers are exactly the same size between the KSC75's and Porta Pros, the grill is...

    Koss Portapro Thread

Try taking advantage of Koss's lifetime warranty. My cable snapped a few years ago when I was bent over tying my shoelaces. The cable hooked underneath my knee and when I stood up, I popped the cable loose from one of the earpieces. I went online and they gave me details in how to return them. I...

    Kramer-mod... KSC75...

These old threads are a goldmine. Picked up a pair or KSC75's for $19.99 CDN at Canada Computers. They sound very meh when I put them on. Drilled some holes in the grill and still sounded meh. Only after quarter modding the earpads did these open up. Details in the mids and highs are extremely...

    The DIY Discman Repair Thread

Bought a Sony D-321 at a pawn shop about a month ago and created an account at Head-Fi.org because this was the only place online that offered a solution to the problem I was experiencing. After chatting to utahtaper, he suspected a couple SMD capacitors went bad and recommended replacing them...

    New Headphone Stand

Was able to pick up the older model Rubbermaid Hose Hook at Lowes for $15 CDN. It was almost perfect but I was super anal about the pressure points put on the headphone band like most people in this thread. So I slightly modded mine by adding a plastic piece from an old Verbatim DVD spindle.  ...
