Best IEM for video (movies, TV, etc)
Price not being a factor, what is (are) the best IEM(s) for video (i.e., DVD, TV, movies, camcorder, etc)? For full-sized cans, I prefer beyer 880s to Sennheiser 650s. I think the a head/earphone has to be pretty fwd sounding to do best with video. But that may be a personal choice. What...- headfone

Quick decision needed: Sennheiser IE8 or Ortofon e-Q7
I need a simple response to those who have heard (preferably own) both. Which of the two -- Sennheiser IE8 or Ortofon e-Q7 -- would you recommend? Or are they different enough to justify owning both? Thx! P.S: Yes, I have gone thru most of the related topical posts at this site and other...- headfone

Monster Gel SuperTip: Which SIZE best for IE8?
Saw that Monster's SuperTips come in a very wide range of sizes. I'm interested in Gel type. Have tired Comply as well as Sennheiser's own foam and double-flange. Must say that I prefer the smallest size for all these; Complys are best but most trouble to insert as they have to be molded first...- headfone

Xin Super Macro IV: Board layout / schematic needed for repair
Trying to replace the worn-out Panasonic vol. pot, some of the traces lifted off and now I'm stuck with a "broken" SM IV. I did snap some pix before/after the desoldering job, but I can't make out much detail from the photos (see below). I may post some more later. I can probably...- headfone

Cowon iAudio X5-30gb -- no audio on Line Out jack
I just installed the latest v. 3.5.1 RockBox onto my X5-30gb (first time on this X5) and now am getting no audio via Line Out jack (on subpack). Headphone out on main unit works fine. Also, it seems that music/audio signal is being deliberately muted as I can clearly hear, over Line Out, the...- headfone

"Your Control Panel" suggestion
Dunno if this has been suggested before (haven't searched archives) but one feature I'd like added to "Your Control Panel" is a "My Posts" and/or "My Threads". This, to me anyway, would be a far more useful a tool than the already-existing "Private Messages" tracker in CP. I would think most...- headfone

3.7V Li-Ion cell vs NiMH
I have a Cowon iAudio X5 whose built-in battery-charging circuit is no longer working properly. The 3.7V Li-Ion batt. is nearly discharged and I currently have no other way to attempt to charge it. I tried substituting roughly 3.7V of NiMH-based battery power, but the unit does not want to...- headfone

Running Pimeta v1 or v2 on single 9V cell
In a recent thread, I noted issues with my Pimeta v2. The issues may be related to type of battery used: 9V cell (see the above link for more info). What's your experience with running Pimeta (v.1 and/or 2) on a single 9V cell? I chose to use a single 9V cell because ... (a) my choice opamp...- headfone

Troubleshooting my Pimeta2
Finally got around to stuffing the Pimeta2 PCB I ordered a few weeks ago... <> Some preliminaries: Built pretty much per Tangent's schematic... - Op-amps are AD8620 for L/R and OPA132U for G - Buffers are LMH16321MR. - Using both LED1 and LED2, HLMP1790s - RLED=2.7K - RLIM=1k-ohm (per...- headfone

Warm/hot running op-amps, anyone?
I can’t seem to get op-amps like AD797 and AD843 to run less than 97F (36C) and 112F (44.4C) degrees, respectively, despite tweaking values of oscillation (feedback) caps and PS pin bypass caps. (Search for Tangent’s Cranky Opamp article for more info). They sound fine, which makes me wonder...- headfone

Absolute phase (polarity invert) switch: plans needed
My Grado HP-1s have a polarity-invert switch on each of the two earpieces. A D/A converter I have also has a polarity-invert switch. A pretty useful feature for me as I can hear the difference, which varies from recording to recording; from what I've read, some folks cannot detect the...- headfone

Burn-in times for AD8620, 8610, etc. opamps
I'm experimenting with AD8620 and 10s for the first time. I've been burning them in for about 30 hours but they still sound way too "loud". I actually prefer forward, "lively" SQ to "warm" and "laid back" (aka Burr-Brown). But I'm not sure how much further the AD8620s will "quiet down". Please...- headfone

AD825: class-A operation + bypassing/snubbing
I'm thinking about class-A'ing some AD825s in a portable (battery-pwr) headphone amp and, perhaps, a non-portable D/A processor IV section. If you've class-A'd this op-amp was it worth the fuss (or does it do almost as well -- or better -- on its own)? Also, how about bypassing/snubbing this...- headfone

Meier audio Corda headamp--your mod experience needed
Anyone out there in DIY-mod-land tear into this unit (or any other Meier audio mid-line solid state amp)? Those familiar with these units may know that these amps all seem to use the LM6171 opamp. I've bypassed and decoupled the heck out of them, as well as installed snubbers. Some things I...- headfone

XIN SuperMacro IV -- anyone Class-A it?
I saw quite a bit of discussion on the XIN site re: the old version of SuperMacro (SuperMacro 3) and class-A config. But none really in context of the "latest" version SuperMacro IV. Anyone class-A it? (The forum on the XIN site seems to dead)- headfone

iAudio X5: direct USB to external storage device possible?
Probab. a redundant query ... but via USB can one directly connect the X5 to an external (portable) storage device like a Flash/thumb drive or a 1.8" HD? (I need more storage than the 60GB of my current iAudio X5). Thx!- headfone

IEM and wind noise
I think this topic has been covered before, but I haven't carefully ck'd the archives for solutions. My biggest issue with IEMs, particularly the Sennheiser IE8 I'm fond of, is wind noise. I've tried various things, even growing my hair out a bit to deflect wind currents around my ears (!!)...- headfone

IEM hiss in PPA2
Earlier, I posted this topic in the IEM sub-forum which has rec'd no replies thus far. I think DIY is more appropriate as the PPA2 -- or at least, my construction of it -- is the worst offender. General question to those of you using PPA with IEMs: If you turn the volume all the way down...- headfone

IEM background hiss vs. amp: Impedance, Sens?
I'm sure there is a posting (= obvious answer) on this topic somewhere (other than this thread) ... so apologies in advance for any redundancy. When plugging IEMs into certain NON-portable amps -- e.g., PPA2, Meier Corda -- I've noticed a "default" hiss (i.e., hiss at minimal volume ...- headfone

iAudio X5: battery drains when off (draws 57mA)
About two months after purchase of my X5 (60GB) -- purchased new in Jan 2007 -- I ran into a problem of very short batt. life. This problem happened all-of-a-sudden, not a gradual "creep-up". I quickly deduced that the batt. was draining when the unit was off as well as when on. That was back...- headfone

Problems with 2004 Meier Corda Headamp-2
My Corda Headamp-2, purchased early 2004, is having problems. I recently noticed a burning odor, so I opened up the unit and found: (1) The two 2200uF/35V power supply caps very warm to the touch. (2) IC12, IC11 (317, 337 regulators); IC9, IC10 (BUF634s) running hot (too hot to touch...- headfone

Using portable DVD players for CD playback
"High-quality" portable CD players seem to be a dying market. I'm wondering if smaller-sized portable DVD players are a potential alternative? Here are some examples at Amazon. Does anyone have experience with these units? How do they sound? What about skip/shock immunity?- headfone
