I was wondering if there is a pair of over ear headphones that offers both great high end detail while producing solid bass impact as well? It seems to me either headphones give you great high end clarity with weak bass, or strong bass with weak highs.  I would think there has to be a set that...

I don't understand why people act like low end isn't important for heavy metal. Heavy Metal likes a good amount of bass too, or else everything loses impact. I keep hearing good things about the Ultasone 780i.  It is said to have great bass without being flubby and crisp highs.

Do you think the Shure SR840's have better bass than the HD280's?

I noticed I have to really back down on the 500hz slider on my PC's EQ. I guess that frequency is heavily boosted on the HD280's. I'm really looking for a pair of headphones that don't require much EQ dialing. I just want to be able to plug them in and have great sound quality.
