2 main difference for me between the ie7 and ie8: ie7 has more forward mids ie8 has more sparklier highs

imo the rolled off highs of the se530 doesnt really sound best for metal. you tend to crank it up and that may result in it being harsh. i suggest you try other iems like ie8/tf10/w3

if you really want a direct alternative to the cx300, you can get the akg k324p or creative ep630. but for the price there are now lots of alternatives around.

i got a chance to listen to these when i was in singapore. one thing i immediately noticed is that they dont have the sibilance issue i was getting with the westone 3. and theyre very small! i really liked them. imo theyre great value for the price.

personally i would be more concerned on how the waxguard will affect the sound quality. it might remove some details since theres another barrier in between.

i dont see IE8's cable as being stiff. imo its the best i have ever used. its durable, soft enough to bend, doesnt tangle easily and have little to no microphonics. i would even prefer them over westone's braided cable.
