GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge
I've just bought the Leo Bodnar clock and use it on the U18 with I2S to the R26, seems a nice upgrade, though still burning in have tried it in both U18 and R26 and R26 only and having it on U18 seems best, not sure if it was doing anything connected to R26 as sounded the same. Leo Bodnar are...- sbgk

had posted previously about modifying the U18 - removing IEC socket and fuse, soldering mains cable direct to transformer and output wires to circuit board pins. That saw some improvement, but the transformer in the case was still next to the circuit board, xmos chip and USB input, so I removed...- sbgk

if in UK remove the iec socket and voltage selector (join middle 2 primary wires on each tx), no need for a fuse, just use a 3A in the plug, the transformers are too close together and interfere with each other so separate them.- sbgk

was trying the xmos thesycon evaluation driver which is at 5.58 and thought it sounded different, so then found this Cayin driver which uses the same files and think the sound is more refined, worth the 5 mins it takes to upgrade. Don't think we'll see a Gustard 5.58 driver as it costs them...- sbgk

on my R26, the USB was pretty rough sounding, used my 6 year old U12 via I2S instead until I got the U18 which is much better than the U12, depends on your amp and speakers etc as well- sbgk

a fuse doesn't have 2 supply wires, that's just a connector if you zoom in, nothing in the manual about fuses, guess they don't want people opening the case, but surely the fuse would be part of the IEC connector. Maybe that bit of wire at 2 o'clock on the red circle is a fuse wire, it seems to...- sbgk

Just got a U18 and removed the IEC socket, fuse, voltage selector and optical out and soldered the tx secondary wires direct to the pins, same as what I've done to the R26. People are spending hundreds on fuses when the IEC socket is the crappiest bit of metal and plastic you could imagine, the...- sbgk

removed the fuse, now protected by the 3A fuse in the mains plug (240V), has removed the thinness in the sound that was annoying me a bit. soldered the secondary wires to the pins directly, this has made a big improvement in SQ, solidity, depth, detail etc, was surprised as thought it was a...- sbgk

that is why slow blow fuses are used, but also means their effectiveness at protecting the electronics is lost, there should be a fuse for the electronics and the mains plug fuse can protect the transformers- sbgk

Further to my experimenting with the transformers I've good news and bad news. bad news is that the transformers are located too close to each other and it's affecting the sound, boosting some frequencies and just making it sound like detailed noise. good news is that separating the transformers...- sbgk

don't understand the fuse requirment, power consumption is <30 W which means 0.125 amps at 240 V. The fuse specified is a slow blow 3.15 A which is 25 x the normal current. The fuse is a slow blow one which means it could take more than 3.15A for a short period, so anything delicate will be...- sbgk
