The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

I have owned a lot of different headphones during the last ten years. I consider my Stax 4170 and 3170 reference. The only headphones that survived this reference during the years are the akg k702 and the k712, both bassport modded. The akg's compliment the Stax in such a way that I can switch...

Sennheiser HD25 Aluminium 25th anniversary edition review

Things have changed since I got the hd 25 aluminium. It is now my preferred headphone. With this headphone the experience of soundpressure is very close to the real thing. The dynamic sound at a concert or from big loudspeakers create a sense of power and impact that I have yet to hear from...

    [Review] Superlux HD681 EVO

You're welcome. It is always a good idea to listen to a headphone before a purchase and even better if you have the opportunity to compare them with others when listening. Happy listenings when you get the time :-) (Keep in mind there is another small plus in favor of the 681evo and that is...

    [Review] Superlux HD681 EVO

I also own the 668b and the 681evo. I would recommend the 681evo. The 668b has a little more upper mids than the 681evo, but I don't think anything is missing in the 681evo mids, no loss of detail and it sounds a bit more natural to boot. The bass is more powerfull in the 681evo, but that also...

Which headphones do you listen to for movies?

I use a bassport modded akg k701 out of my denon receiver and I am very happy with it. Comfort is important when watching a movie. The k701 is light, not warm and my ears do not touch the driver nor the pads in any way. The sound of the k701 is perfect for movies imo with a clear and neutral...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

This philosophical approach is allways relevant, no doubt, it makes everyone wake up and think twice. But I must admit that... well I just really like the k701 with this mod, I think it sounds better this way. And yes akg chose to close this port off with all their expertise, but the thing is, I...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

I am not sure if I misunderstand you. About the b&w nautilus I was thinking about the long tubes that is also a chamber behind the drivers. Try and google "b&w nautilus" and you will see what I mean. I think this kind of "snailhouse chamber" could be an interesting headphone design. It is all...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

Just a thought really. "Burning in" that piece of tape is probably not all. Could be fun though, then we could change the name of the mod to "The AKG 5 minute burn-in!" ;-)

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

I find all this very interesting. If I was to design a closed back headphone, there is no doubt I would experiment with bass ports, the diameter, tubes and the length of these tubes into the chamber. I also find designs like the cone-shaped tube, the b&w "nautilus design" behind the driver very...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

"FYI: I've owned a pair of k701s since 2006 and long-term use has been an interesting evolution. These cans take quite a while to break/burn in ... but the resulting increase in SQ is worth the wait. " The little round piece of tape on the back of the driver is soft and strechy. What if this...

    AKG 712 vs Denon AH-D5000

I have owned the denon d2000, and I would choose the akg any day of the week for any purpose over the "rumbling" denons.

    Sexiest headphones.

I have allways found the akg k701 to be the best looking headphone. It has this raw and simple design, sort of naked, stripped from all unnecessary stuff, with leather, high quality velours and classy colours. The k701 is the sexy "naked headphone" like the ducati monster motorcycle is sexy in...

    Non-peaky treble headphones

My best advice to you is that you listen before you buy, no matter which headphone you choose. Given the comment above on the 380's and peaky trebles(or not), it has become rather difficult if not impossible to recommend... Too bad, because it sounds really good...

    Non-peaky treble headphones

Funny you think the 380 has peaky trebles, I think it has quite gentle highs and not peaky at all. I use the 380 with an ipod classic and the just audio uha 120 amp and it tames the otherwise somewhat irritating highs in the ipod, leaving me with a very pleasing sound. It has a bit of forward...

    The Entry Level Stax Thread

Stax amps and speakers are not overpriced. I consider the 323s comparable to the best amps in the same price range and I am quite confident that the 323s will not hold you back in any way.

    AKG K702 Headband Painful?

Well this is good news! The price on the k702 has gone some 25% down and adds a flat headband to boot! Otherwise with the bumps, just cut them out and put a women's pantyshield on instead. (Take a look at my avatar...) Nice, comfortable, cheap and easy to exchange when it gets dirty.
