    The Grado HF-2 Review/Comparison Thread

I've had mine for about a week now. I have been a grado guy for a while and I've had the 60's, 80's, 125's, 225's, and most recently 325's, which I loved. These are better, out of the box. I have been doing some pad rolling, I usually use reversed/quarter modded 414 pads. The stock bowls on...

    Official HF-2 Serial Number List

SN# 507, pretty cool because my boys are 5 and 7 years old. I'm VERY easy to please and not in any way picky, but I have to admit I was disappointed with the appearance of mine. Several nicks on the metal which I could live with, but there are also these big swirly defects all over the writing...

    When does audio wowness begain?

My wowness started at $50 when I bought my first set of grado's, used SR-60's off the FS forums when I first joined (about 8 years ago...) Nothing since then has been such a big jump in enjoyment, but I still love anticipating what a new headphone will sound like and playing my favorite music...

    denon 1001k with fiiO E5

Yes, they sound fine unamped, straight from mp3 player or laptop, e5 is fine, but I don't think it really adds much to the d1001. They scale well with mods (damping/recable/etc...) also.

Dr. dre beats need help for some advice

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the freq range when I listened to them, I just thought the Beats was better. I didn't think either one of them was worth the asking price though, I'm just saying that I don't think they are as bad as everyone says and that there is a place for fun headphones that aren't...

Dr. dre beats need help for some advice

Based on trying the beats vs. Xb700 at best buy, I would pay $150 for the beats, I thought they were fun. Might be different with different setups and music though. My $.02, I think they are better than a lot of people give them credit for, but I'm no audiophile. JJ

    Headphones for Paramore lover ...

Yeah, I don't think you'd be satisfied with the bass from the AD700. I was thinking about the DT880 FWIR, but I've never heard them myself, so I can't really recommend them. If you'd be willing to try some closed cans, the Denon's are very comfortable, have great bass, and are good for rock. I'm...

    Headphones for Paramore lover ...

I hate to say it, but you're looking for a grado. We share very similar taste in music, my favorite can right now is SR325, and with Senn HD414 pads they are very comfortable and have plenty of bass. Sounds fine straight out of a source (laptop/mp3 player), and even better out of a dac/amp. If...

    The Zebra Wood Headphones?

The box is definitely decent, certainly not the highest quality wood, but better than what you'll find 99% of other headphones coming in. I'm thinking it will make a great case for my HF2's when they arrive, I'll just do a foam transplant from the pizza box.

    The Zebra Wood Headphones?

Mine arrived. Worth $70, for sure. If for nothing else than the sweet box and leather scent. This is the first time in a long time I've had a little disposable income to spend on a completely impulse purchase. I think anyone on the fence should give it a go. Quick listening impressions - OK for...

Please, help me. I don't know what good sounds like.

I have to say, I agree with a lot of what Peter said about not isolating yourself from the outside world, but if you don't choose to change your entire worldview on the matter there are a lot of good choices out there as many have suggested in this thread. And to answer 1Time, I find the...

Please, help me. I don't know what good sounds like.

Here's your short list: KSC-75's. You should get these, period. You can still get some "full size" cans, but as one of the previous posters alluded to, these are easy to put on, they are cheap, you can put them in your pocket if you want to be more active, I mean, seriously, for $10-15, there...

Impending Buy - Need Some Wisdom

I'm in a somewhat similar situation. My solution at first was PS3 --> RCA output-->RCA/miniplug adapter-->Fiio E5-->Sennheiser RS130 Wireless headset. I wasn't too happy with the sound quality, even for just TV/movies. Mostly an issue with interference on the Senn's since they are wireless, I...

Sennheiser PX 100 vs. Koss Porta Pro - The Ultimate Thread

I had the exact same reaction as DrBenway to the PX100. I bought them at Circuit City on sale for <$20 and I disliked them so much that I actually took them back! I mean that's a lot of trouble to go to for $20, so from what I remember I was really put off by them. I have 6 or so pairs of the...

New to amps, need to power an AD700

I would recommend a decent amp/dac combo. I recently obtained an ibasso d1 dac/amp on the FS forum and it does well with my low impedence cans (ad700's included). It's semiportable, has optical (i.e. for PS3 output) and USB inputs, and can function as a standalone amp if need be. I got it at...

    Sony MDR-V6 vs M-Audio Q 40 (Minnesota)

i haven't heard the Q40, but I owned the V6 for awhile. Looking at your requirements, I would heartily recommend the Denon d1001. I think they sound much better than the sony, with a bit more emphasis on bass, but pretty crisp highs, too. They are my portable cans of choice right now. They seem...

I tried the Beats By Dre...And I liked them!

I finally had a chance to check them out at best buy. I really liked them, too. I was surprised by my reaction. I realize they have a limited selection of music that highlights their strengths, but I thought there was much more to them than the bass that everyone talks about. They were much more...

    A world of confusion

I'm a huge grado fan. SR-60s were one of my first nice headphones, I've had a pair of SR-80's for > 5 years and I still love them, and I have a newer to me pair of SR-325's that are very good, but probably not worth the difference in price over the SR-80's. I think if you're looking at <$100 the...

    A whole new world!

You should try to get your hands on the Philips HP 890. Wide open, pretty clear, large bass. They used to be compared favorably with the Senn 580's. I still have a pair (they were my first "nice" set of headphones). They are built horribly, require epoxy to stay together, but still sound decent.

How long have you been on the Head-Fi.org (especially the Headphones subforum)?

Since 2001, lurked for awhile before I registered. As it happens, that's when our first kid was born. I think quite a few people probably start that way.
