Soldering headphone jacks - help ?

Hello ae100. I looked up the specs for the 800's. They are wired into a standard stereo 3.5mm plug. This means both channels use the same ground connection. That will be the two light colored wires. As HIGHFLYiN9 suggests and i agree the reds is right channel and the blue is the left channel.  ...

    Baffling Hum Issue

I would check the neutral and ground to see if one or the other is not connected properly. Use a neon or meter and measure ; 1- from gnd to hot yes. 2- from neutral to hot yes. 3- from gnd to neutral NO. If you get any other result the problem is in the house wiring not the amp or system.

    Li-ion charging

The train gets another car.  I have done some measurements and Shottky diodes seam to drop the least amount internally so using the diode bypass method is looking ,,,maybe. Tests with the 1n4004, drops .54v, (I'm sure varying a bit from diode to diode) but the Shottky UF4004 version only drops...

    Li-ion charging

The PTC4054  will declare the batt dead and begin charging when the batt is 3 v. So that would mean the amp must work down to 2.4v. Soooooo close yet so far away.

    Li-ion charging

No. The data sheet shows the supply feeding the reg then the reg feeding the batt and cir in parallel. Electrically it would work but having the cir and batt in parallel would confuse the reg IC since it would not just see the batt and it's condition. Also the reg has a program pin which accepts...

    Li-ion charging

I have a pocket amp just finished, which works well but has presented me with a problem i have no solution for. It's about charging the battery. I am using a 3.3v Li-ion battery. Sch for chargers are on the net by the hundreds. However they all require taking the batt out of the cir to charge...

In this set the wood boxes are each covering aluminum Hammond chassis for shielding due to the high gain stages of the phono-amp. Here the wood "feels" best.     This is when the color and warmth set in. After spraying with varnish.     Here the pwr spply is done and tested under load...

Very kind words Guidostrunk thank you. That is the last of the walnut and maple from building my main system. OK maybe a few small desk lamps. I love the smell of wood, the texture of it, the warmth it radiates. Hence the orange soft led's on the front and the glow of the heaters is a...

After building my avatar amp, a Millit-Maxed. I had the tube bug and extra wood left over so built more. The amp OTL 6dj8 / 6as7 / 5v4. Headphone Amp. (first)     Then i built a 5-in / 2-out audio switcher with iphone, ipad, dap, dac, etc,,,,, perch. The perch folds down for transport...

    Gungnir Multibit Noise Problem

Lets hope they will sort it out. From your explanation it still sounds to me like it is DC offset. Just now it seems it's a dc offset produced by their own optical drive circuit and the USB drive cir. Both these cct's have their modules inside between the plug and the input switching cct so yes...

    Gungnir Multibit Noise Problem

There would be 3 main sources of an audible click associated with switching to another input source. 1- A residual dc on a devices output that has not depleted until it has the load of the Gugnir's input in the circuit.   2- The switching should also entail muting of the audio when the CPU...

    DT990 without no amp

This is a bit off topic but mentioned in here so thought i would ask. My question is about the archived sight mentioned on page one of this thread. I have tried looking for headwize, and other diy audio, etc sights and always get zero results. I feel quite dumb at this point but asking anyways...

Iron transformer standoffs / platform / risers

You could just use 3 or 4 metal washers between trans and your plate. That would lift it up (allowing wires to be brought out the space) and still have the trans securely bolted down. This would also allow air to circulate around the trans helping to cool it.

I'm starting to get my pics changed for the net so here is a bit of eye candy. This is a mic and stand i made to go with an audio analyzer i had built to complete my home system at the time.  The rods are from discarded printers and scanners. Each section raises and lowers like velvet. And...

It almost sounds like you may have an impedance miss-match. Have you tried changing the value of the 24K, maybe a bit higher value even up to 100K same as pot?

I do see one possible problem. Have the pics you put up been inverted. The reason being is, in the bottom board pic, the ground for vol pot is on the left. Therefore if pot is mounted as per pic with pot on it,,,,,,,, Full clockwise rotation will turn vol down not up. I must admit,,,"Been there...

I agree. Most small heat-sinks can be mounted with fins facing out off the board projecting heat away from those caps and physically leaving more room between cap and sink. A general rule of thumb with any power resistor is to board mount with space between. Many diff ways of holding res off...

I haven't put in a fuse yet as on the bench i use an electronic fuse which is adjustable from 40 to about 500 watts. Having said that, looking at trans specs, the low volt side is capable of 12-watts and high side, 8-watts, for 20 total which is 0.166ma at 120v. Adding in about 100% over for...

Well Chris. First off it's miss. Don't apologize it happens all the time. The air vents i cut using a router bit in a drill press after making a wooden jig to move the board. Not the preferred method but as you can see works. I have a full set of pics of the build inside and out but just wanted...
