Has anyone here used the Hifiman Speaker Tap adapter with their HE-500s or 400s? I thought this might be an easy way to plug into a speaker amp, yet Hifiman says it's not for easy to drive headphones like the HE-500s. Would it work for this use the same as making a cable with speaker taps on it...

I think in general, there is a reason for a pair of headphones having a very high price. Usually this reason is an increase in sound quality. I'm gonna say the HiFiMAN line. While not holding the same history as the others mentioned here, they've quickly climbed to very near the top of the headphone scene, and there's a reason for that. I've enjoyed my HE-500s a lot, but would still like to try the HE-6s. Just my input.

I have the HE-500s and thoroughly enjoy them for rock music. I also have a Schiit Lyr powering them, so that adds to the sound quality of course. They actually really aren't that hard to drive though compared to the 5LEs and HE-6s. The HE-400s are a good option as well, especially if you aren't...

+1 for the Schiit Lyr. I have it paired with the HE-500s and have been loving every minute of it. As was mentioned it's under your budget, but really sounds like it should cost more.
