Headphone shops in san diego?
The Best Buy in Mission Valley has a Magnolia Center. They have the HD598/650 out on display, and probably may have a 600/800 in stock as well if you ask. For Beyer I don't know. What are you looking for? T1? Interestingly, I don't remember seeing Beyers there. They have the wooden Audio...- kidster18

Need some new versatile Home 'Studio' cans with a bit more precision
Glad you found something that worked! If you got the 940s, they tend to crack easily especially with a larger head so you might have to watch out.- kidster18

Best bang for buck, Amp/DAC or headphone upgrade... or both (~$250)
If you intend to use your cans for mobile use, I strongly recommend a mobile DAC/AMP (e.g. Fiio E17/E07K, or Leckerton) for dual-purpose use. It's a USB DAC/Amp and doesn't require drivers so you can bring it everywhere. I use it with my iPod with Line-out Dock on the go, with my laptop at...- kidster18

Need some new versatile Home 'Studio' cans with a bit more precision
OP said he had a large head, as do I (I max out the SRH840s), hence my reason for highlighting the clamping pressure. They felt ok in store but after < 2 hours at home it was too much for me. Of course there are high and low clamp pressure phones, but with large heads like mine (and possibly...- kidster18

Need some new versatile Home 'Studio' cans with a bit more precision
They do sound really good and are well priced. I think the fit is quite clampy though, which can be a potential problem. Unfortunately it may not be something you will realize until you take it home from the store (that's what happened in my case)- kidster18

Need some new versatile Home 'Studio' cans with a bit more precision
You are totally spot on the DT770s. I didn't find them exceedingly bassy but the mids were terribly recessed (huge notch at 3-4 kHz). M50x is totally out. The bass is off the charts and songs sound completely imbalanced IMO. I owned the Shure 840s and 940s. I have a huge head as well and...- kidster18

V Moda M100s worth the upgrade from Audio Technica ATH-M50s?
If you like the M50 sound, then I would just stick with them. The m100 sounds about the same. Both phones are not to my taste. For a real upgrade for ~$300, I would consider ZMF modded Fostex T50RPs, or Mad Dogs. They are leagues better than the M50s/m100 in comfort and sound quality.- kidster18

Best bang for buck, Amp/DAC or headphone upgrade... or both (~$250)
I listen to Clapton, Steely Dan, Timmons, some classical. For the money you cannot beat a well-modded Fostex T50RP for sweet mids. I tried almost all the popular headphones available on the market in the price range - DT770/880/990, Shure SRH840/940, M50s, Senn HD558/598/660/650/Momentum...- kidster18

Looking for budget earbuds/earphones
I would strongly recommend the Monoprice 8320 variants, if you are not completely opposed to IEMs. They are only $8 and have very good sound for the price. It comes with 3 sizes of flanges for your ear and you can try memory foam tips if those don't work for you. ...- kidster18

Need help choosing the right pair of headphones
I would also recommend you pass on the ATH-M50s/DT770, their mids leave very much to be desired, in my opinion. I listen to similar stuff that you do, bought the DT770s and returned them after a day. If you can try them out locally before purchase, that would be the best option for you.- kidster18

Headphones for Travel and frustration with Sennheiser 219
Honestly I think the original PX100 sounds much better than the PX100ii. Someone's selling it now for $50 on the trades forum, but sometimes you can get them for $30-$40 on ebay.- kidster18

Need help choosing the right pair of headphones
Agree with HD558/DT990s, but in my opinion DT990s' mids are a bit recessed and not ideal for jazz vocals/electric guitar If you get the HD558s, try the popular foam mod to make them sound like HD598s. Otherwise, you can try getting a pair of used HD598s as well. Both shouldn't need a dac/amp...- kidster18

Need some help!! newbie here=p
I tried out the etymotics MC5 yesterday and like its clarity. However, it was a little thin on the bass..even when i used the bass booster EQ it was still not bassy enough for my liking.. Can anyone recommend iems that are close to the MC5 in terms of clarity but with a little more bass? Price...- kidster18
