JPS Labs Abyss
I believe consumer reports blindly purchases all they test and does not accept advertizing? If accurate, it would seem such a policy prevents suggestion of biased results. Regarding not publishing negative reviews...first, i think most reviewers give the manufacturer an opportunity to...- Sandman65

16/44 data with DSP applied...what happens?
Quote: agreed, but there's still a few and I've even come across marketing that touts dac chips capable of 24/96 yet the USB transfer limit is "in the fine print". If the dac is fed strictly by USB I find such selective advertizing suspect- Sandman65

16/44 data with DSP applied...what happens?
I force 16/44 output to 24 bit depth using JRIver and sometimes apply DSP eq and/or crossfeed... if I send a 16/44 data stream (with DSP) thru a USB only capable of tranfering 16 bits what happens to the signal? (I assume the original 16/44 gets truncated to accomodate the DSP and 16 bit...- Sandman65

The question has been asked twice and I did not see a response so I'll ask it again... Were the defective units removed from dealer inventory so someone ordering new doesn't get a bum unit and have to go through all the shipping/return hassle? My sincere apologies if I...- Sandman65

Amp input sensitivity vs. voltage fed (searched but only got a partial answer)
I'm a little bamboozled over amps with multiple gain settings as described to accomodate a wider variety of headphones. I googled and read a "gain" article and from that understand high gain increases the amps input sensitivity (decreasing voltage reqd to achieve full rated...- Sandman65

O2 vs TOTL
Read through about half this and all drama aside I still intend to try a O2 or C421. I'd really like to see an impartial measurement shootout vs. the QuickStep.... accompanied by a blind listening panel. At it's pricepoint, options and intended use, I consider the QuickStep to be...- Sandman65

Ultrasone HFI 780 vs. Audio Technica M50 vs. Other
Having ownded ATH M-50's for ~ a month I'd say they are quite a good deal for classical, jazz, fusion, most prog rock, country (Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson) IF the recording quality is decent. The genres you mention (Rock and Alternative) do have some good recordings but from my experience it's...- Sandman65
