    The Pono Player Impressions Thread

As originaly planned I've sold my Pono (at cost) and I hope the guy who's bought it enjoys it very much.  It's a great player, especially for the money and especially for the Kickstarter price.   After about 100 hours of run in the bass filled in nicely and it sounded much more balanced.  I...

Brilliant, thanks for that - I'll grab a couple over the weekend and give it a go. I'm actually surprisingly enthused by the idea, which doesn't happen that much these days :grinning:

    The Pono Player Impressions Thread

...hit reply by mistake... It's quite an 'exciting' sound, full of energy and pace. In comparison, the AK240 (same cable, single ended, custom FitEar MH334) initially sounds a bit dull - but the subtlety and depth quickly becomes apparent. Nonetheless, the Pono is very good and improves with...

    The Pono Player Impressions Thread

Ah, RTFM, self - I didn't realise you need twin plugs to run in balanced mode, anyone got a wiring diagram please? I've had a look but can't find one... I just want to adapt my stock fitEar IEM cable In the meantime, I've had the player on shuffle for three days now - as anticipated the sound...

    The Pono Player Impressions Thread

Thegrobe, I received my pono yesterday - I agree pretty much entirely with your findings. I'm running it single ended at the moment and I've left it on repeat for burn in. It's early days but for the money I think it offers decent value and performance. The sound is indeed detailed and airy...

Compared digital ICs, i2digital x60 vs AZ MC2

Hi,   When did you get your i2digital cables please?  I ordered mine in April last year and all I have had is email excuses about not being able to source some minor part and that they are thinking about compensating me in some way.   thanks Andy

kiats, if you've not tried the balanced out from the AK240, do. I had the (extremely helpful) guys at Jaben HK change the connector on my FitEar silver cable - very worthwhile change. Since you seem to have more than one cable (as do I) you can keep a spare with a standard 3.5mm Regards Andy

Hi Kiats, I'm v pleased to hear I helped inspire, but as we know, the product sells itself. I must add though, that I've worked my way from iPhone/FLAC/Vorzugge Pure through AK100, AK100/Vorzugge, AK120 and now AK240; each upgrade has enabled to MH334s to shine more brightly. They are so...

I just got mine, so far I concur with everything stated above.  I'm using CIEM FitEar MH334s with them, I had the Fitear Silver cable changed to balanced.  While that was happening in the shop I carried on listening with LCD-XCs.  Fantastic detail and soundstage, great bass - everything.  Both...

    Astell & Kern 120 and IEMs/Headphones

Hi kerrys30   Regarding your point:   AK120+AMP+SE535s=even clearer sound   I was asked about how the AK120 fares vs the AK100/Vorzugge Pure in a private message (I have both)   For the direct comparison I found this:  I finally got around to comparing the AK100/Pure vs the...

Astell & Kern AK120 impression thread

Hi Heyyeh    Agreed, it's a right royal pain in the arse and certainly not what I expect from and expensive item like this.  I spoke to Jaben HK last week and they said they would contact iRiver about it - I haven't had the chance to follow up on the issue, but I will and will update here...

Review by 'Stonemanty' on item 'FitEar MH334 custom in-ear monitor'

I've had these for a several months now, I was amazed when I bought them and they continue to amaze me. I've had my share of Etymotics, Westones and Shures, over the years (and with flights and funds increasing) upgrading through their ranges. I've also been upgrading the sources; having...

And, if all there is to gripe about is the case, it suggests the product itself is sound! (Reaches for player to restart.....) ... And this roll of the SD card lottery gives - No SD cards... See you soon! (Restart) ... this roll of the SD card lottery gives - Two SD cards both with music...

Astell & Kern AK120 impression thread

Oh yes, AK100/Pure/334s sounds great and I was (and remain) hugely impressed with each and the set (rig) Having gone iPhone 4 then 5 with the Pure (FLAC player) the above setup was more compact and looked really cool, but was still a faff to carry around - sadly, life is full of compromises and...

Astell & Kern AK120 impression thread

The cards are 64gb Kingston - they worked (and work - I checked) just fine in my AK100. I tried rebooting and even a factory reset but the problem remains I'm afraid. I noticed one of the firmware updates on the AK100 mentioned fixing card reading issues, but then I'd have thought this would...

Astell & Kern AK120 impression thread

Hi audionewbi, Have you had any problems with your AK120 recognising the SD cards? Mine intermittently drops them ie on booting one time it will see both and all the tracks, the next it might register one or neither - very frustrating Other than that, I think it's a great player - a...

The first bars of the 24bit version of Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy - I got my wallet out.  More detail, soundstage, bass, more finesse, more power and dynamics (I listen to the AK100 in isolation at around 47-50, currently listening to the AK120 at 39 - whether it's exactly the same...

New high-end headphone amps: Vorzuge VorzAMPpure and VorzAMPduo impressions and review thread

I must be getting old; I reckon mine's been pretty much perfect ever since day one.  I think I've have learned to appreciate it more, but I cannot say I noticed it getting better.   I still find it astonishing quality and I'm still delighted with it!

Shure - Very Poor Customer Service in Hong Kong

Update on my Shure experience....   I found the receipt and they took them in.  A week later they were ready and I went to get them. They'd replaced the cable and the left unit.  The former for the intermittent cutting out, the latter for the low volume.  I didn't have the rubbers so could...

    FitEar MH334

I've been listening to Friend And Foe by Menomena* while writing this - iPhone 4, 320kps MP3 into Vorzugge Pure and the MH334s - not even FLAC - and the sound is fantastic; dynamic, airy, detailed and exciting.  It suddenly struck me - again - just how good these things are.   * Excellent...

    FitEar MH334

I bought some MH334s about 3 weeks ago.  They are stunning.  No other word for it. Proper HiFi by any standard.   If you're a headbanger; In Silico by Pendulum absolutely stomps.  The sub-bass on Wet and Rusting by Menomena equals that of the subs on my main HiFi, it's eerie - you can almost...

    Fitear Private 333 cable upgrade?

I just got a new cable from Jaben in Hong Kong - its a fair bit thicker than the standard MH334 cable and has a carbon fibre type jack cover - sonically it sounds immediately punchier than the standard cable - snares almost make you blink!  After that, it offers more detail across the board...
