HE-500 Mini-Review from a newbie
If I recall correctly, a splitter does put more stress and drain on your headphone amplifier, as you are driving two headphones at once. Quote:- dolan

Best Headset 70% Gaming+30% Music!
Quote: The Audio Technica AD700 complements any sort of game where sound positioning is important. Even games like Call of Duty and Battlefield benefit greatly from a good pair of headphones. Why would he spend up to $150 for a pair of headphones for "not so serious gaming"? In any...- dolan

Best Headset 70% Gaming+30% Music!
Quote: I think you're missing the point. If he's using the headphones for gaming the vast majority of the time, the AD700 will be by far the superior choice, even if it is inferior to other choices for his preferred music.- dolan

Questions from my wallet...
Yamaha HP3: As far as I know, this is not normal with orthodynamic headphones. I have a feeling this might have been psychological. Were you thinking about modding these, by the way? AKG K240: You can try posting on the For Sale / Trade Forums. They are relatively easy to mod, however.- dolan

Sennheiser MXs: the best under $30
Quote: I have a pair of custom earphones yet I almost always use a pair of traditional earbuds when I'm walking around. The isolation a pair of custom earphones provides is actually a disadvantage in certain situations.- dolan

Do driver in headphone degrade when age?
At least within my experience with orthodynamic headphones, the transducers do degrade after twenty or thirty years of continuous usage.- dolan

Terrific comparison review. Don't forget to mention the manufacturers of both pairs of headphones, however. AKG K550 vs Audio-Technica A900X- dolan
