Completely new to audiophile world
As has been said, you probably need a 3.5mm jack-to-toslink adapter for your computer. This is the same setup my Asus Xonar DX soundcard uses. Nice to have you on Head-Fi by the way, some of us are new here too.- DrNebula11

New Headset And/or Soundcard for Alienware M17x
I am using modded PC350s right now. They sound adequate in my opinion. The "bass attenuation" was a bit unnatural, which was how they sounded out-of-the-box.- DrNebula11

Cheapest soundcard I can get, strictly for using the coax spdif out?
If I were you, I would use the STX. I have a GTX 550 Ti in my system, but haven't noticed any noise coming from my Xonar DX. Maybe your setup is just too different? Anyway, good luck on your audio endeavors.- DrNebula11

Best Gaming Headsets (Not Headphones + Mic)
I am currently using a pair of modded PC350s. They sound decent enough. If I were you, I would jump on the Beyers as they look quite substantial as far as build quality. Since you are seeking durability this might be the ticket in your case.- DrNebula11

ASUS Xonar DX + FiiO E11 vs. ASUS Xonar Essence STX
Quote: So you're saying that the STX actually does use its built-in headphone amp to power the front panel? Someone claimed it only powered the 1/4 in. out jack in the rear.- DrNebula11

ASUS Xonar DX + FiiO E11 vs. ASUS Xonar Essence STX
Not sure what "damping" means, but if I use the PC350s with my Yamaha keyboard minus the E11 in the chain, the notes waver as they taper off. With the E11, the notes sound "stronger" but not necessarily louder and taper off evenly. I am concerned that the PC350 will suffer performance if used on...- DrNebula11

Getting new headphones and soundcard, what to get?
Or you could try the AntLion ModMic + a pair of Beyer DT990 Pros. This combo will cost you approximately $210 total. It is what I was considering as an alternative once I returned the PC350s, which I never did. Seriously though, the PC350 mod is actually quite straightforward. I did it early one...- DrNebula11

Getting new headphones and soundcard, what to get?
Be careful with the PC350, many people say they give excellent sound and they have positive reviews across the board. As a recent buyer, however, I can say these people probably have no idea what accurate sound is. The PC350s were the biggest let-down as a purchase ever. I managed to force them...- DrNebula11

ASUS Xonar DX + FiiO E11 vs. ASUS Xonar Essence STX
I think the E11 makes a slight difference. These are 150 ohm headphones, but I also believe I detect variance as I said. I just want the convenience of an internal amp, without the clunky battery box hassle of an external one. If the whole thing sounds better that would be a plus.- DrNebula11

Best Amp for Sennheiser PC360 + Titanium HD?
I use an unamped sound card, thus the need for the FiiO E11. I can't vouch for the PC360s, but the PC350 sounded like sh!t out of the box. Thanks to this website and Hero's Mod I was able to salvage an overpriced cosmetic headband. Not sure what Sennheiser decided to do with the sound quality on...- DrNebula11

Best Amp for Sennheiser PC360 + Titanium HD?
I am not sure if an amp is an absolute requirement in your case as the PC360 has relatively low 50 ohm impedance. I have the PC350s which are rated at 150 ohms and I am running them fine with a FiiO E11 portable headphone amp. Though I must say, for a newbie, the sound is quite similar just...- DrNebula11

ASUS Xonar DX + FiiO E11 vs. ASUS Xonar Essence STX
Hi, I am fairly new to the hi-fi scene and was recently drawn in because of a desire for better headphones and a microphone of some kind. I do gaming, so a headset like the PC350 seemed great. I now own the PC350, plus an ASUS Xonar DX sound card and a FiiO E11 portable headphone amp. However, I...- DrNebula11
