Is sony z1000 worth $500?
The best thing the z1000 has done for me is teaching me that mids can be a good thing. Must be years of having bad cans and EQ'ing them with a V shape, but these babies make the midranges pleasant - ergo, beautiful vocals.- loopsider

Assistance in Choosing. Sony MDR-7520 or Z1000 ?
It might be but it will be November until then lol. The z1000 is a perfect balance between musicality and critical listening, by the description the 1r might go in the musical/colored direction. Definitely looks exciting though and it's tempting to preorder. If its anything like the z1k it will...- loopsider

Assistance in Choosing. Sony MDR-7520 or Z1000 ?
Just got the z1000s, love them. A TAD light on the bass but I'm starting to see that's how the music is meant to sound, so it's a natural bass. If I'm listening to a song with a double bass, its going to have some punch, bass kicks also have a nice push to them. The difference is that there's no...- loopsider

Fake/Counterfeit Seinnheiser IE80 impressions and review
This is half a joke post, half a PSA. I haven't seen either on the IE80 here (just the IE8) so I figured this might be useful due to how rampant these are. I bought these off Amazon for 350.00, knowing that if they were fakes they had a guarantee for items that are mislabeled. No surprise, they...- loopsider

Review: Audio Technica ATH-W1000X & ATH-ESW10 Japan
I've been holding off from posting my own W1000x porn but these shots are lovely. What most people see as deficiencies in it are what I love about it the most (though someone thought the mids were forward, what the heck?!). These are simply one of the best classical, jazz, acoustic and...- loopsider

Grado-sounding IEM?
I own both the SR225 and a few IEMs. Phonak PFE + Gray Filters are the closest Grado in-your-face and lush mids I've heard out of the UM3x and TF10. When I do an a/b test the biggest difference with the grado is the "airiness" that comes from it being open-air.- loopsider

Help me make my first big high end purchase
Welcome to head-fi but under 300.00 isn't going to be in the "big high end purchase" in the full-size headphone arena. If you do buy a decent pair of cans in the 400-1000$ mark you will then need to buy a decent amplifier on top of that to drive those cans properly. Its a rewarding experience...- loopsider

Authenticity concerns on the SE530PTH I just purchased from ebay
He is a 100% rated seller, you have very little worry about. What else is there to say? There are no pictures to judge it by or anything like that. IF anything you paid a little bit more than you had to so there is no "too good to be true" factor. You did use the bing.com 8% off cashback right?- loopsider

Upgrade from TF10, RE0?
You won't really be upgrading unless you go for something like the JH13's, everything else is just a horizontal acquisition. All of the top-tier IEMs just sound "different." Personally, I like the Phonak PFEs for complex classical recordings. My biggest gripes with the "classical" phones...- loopsider

A fun, overall great sounding IEM with great details, large soundstage, and precise instrument separation? $200 budget
I'll throw in the Phonak PFEs. One of the most versatile IEMs in my opinion, I haven't tried any that can do Jazz/Classical well and also do Rock or Trance. The sound is refined enough that its as good as the 300 dollar IEMs (had the UM3x and TF10 to compare to) and according to your preference...- loopsider

Shure e2c's finally went through the pearly gates
Ah...I remember my e2cs. They will always have a special place in my heart. My first "expensive" headphones back then. Need help choosing earphones for classical music
Do the etymotics have the bass to keep up? After hearing how they are bass light I'm starting to question how well-suited they are to classical. They are always the first to be suggested. But let's not lie, classical requires some awesome bass, if you've ever been in front of a full orchestra...- loopsider

New high end IEM from Shure! SE535!
I'm totally loving the clear look. I love the way the UM3x looks in my ears, it almost feels like I'm downgrading when I use different phones that have a more "earbud" look to them.- loopsider
