    Cans For Drum Recording

The Beyer [showUID]=223&tx_sbproductdatabase_pi1[showUid][backPID]=93&cHash=31870a78d0]770Ms, they were designed to be used as monitors for drummers, main difference b/w these and the standard 770s, is that the M version has extra isolation, obviously any open cans would be disastrous in this arena.

Shipping a Technics 1200MK2 across the country? Looking for help from people familiar with the tech 1200s

Thank again! OK, I'm really glad the platter ought to be alright because I don't think the seller would have been too eager to start dismantling the unit... I'm told that the only way to have the unit insured is to have UPS pack it themselves, so again, a lot will depend on how well these...

Shipping a Technics 1200MK2 across the country? Looking for help from people familiar with the tech 1200s

Also, there is a circular magnet that is under the platter, any idea if this is this connected to the platter (or the rotor) or is it free? The manual says not to "drop" the magnet so I'm assuming it's on its own in which case after it could ship in a bag with the other loose items.

Shipping a Technics 1200MK2 across the country? Looking for help from people familiar with the tech 1200s

Thanks a lot memepool, I've already paid for the packing and shipment costs, so the metal case is out unfortunately. In retrospect, that would have been a much better idea, at least I'd have something to show for the cost! Do you think it's wise to remove the platter as well? I looked at the...

Shipping a Technics 1200MK2 across the country? Looking for help from people familiar with the tech 1200s

I recently made an eargasmic yet financially ruinous decision and bid on a vintage Technics 1200 MKII on eBay. I'm just a bit concerned as the unit needs to be sent almost the entire length of the country (Canada) and there's no original box. The owner who I'm buying it from is elderly and...

Ortofon too polite for bass heavy electronic music on vinyl?

The 770s (et all) did it for you as well eh? I love those cans (mine are the pre-2005 770/80s.. did I already mention that?), it just feels so right going back to them after trying something else for a while... there are TONS of well regarded headphones I've not had the opportunity to audition...

Ortofon too polite for bass heavy electronic music on vinyl?

The Grados most certainly come in P-Mount, but I'd not thought much about them simply because I'm not really a Grado guy and I assumed that the sound signature would be similar to the cans they produce. I've owned a few Grados as well as an MS-1 and they just didn't do it for me (and I really...

Ortofon too polite for bass heavy electronic music on vinyl?

Wow, thanks to everyone for the awesome replies! Lini I highly appreciate the lengthy and detailed infos, the sheer number of choices (less so for T4P, but even then) and the lack of a comprehensive stylus-to-cartridge resource has had me scratching my head and surfing aimlessly for days. I was...

Ortofon too polite for bass heavy electronic music on vinyl?

Great advice! Thanks. The Shure is certainly well regarded but also well out of my price range at the moment. I've been holding off on replacing my phono stage and my needle in the hopes of aquiring a cheap Technics 1200. It hasn't happened and I'm desperate to have a working TT again, so that's...

Ortofon too polite for bass heavy electronic music on vinyl?

Curious what people think about the pairing. I've been amassing records over the last few months and would love to finally be able to LISTEN(!) to them, but a while back my NAD PP1 phono stage died on me and I desperately need a new needle. I'm almost positive that I am going to order one of...

    technics 1200?

Seeing as the 1200 is a direct drive TT, does that mean that there will be more 'rumble' coming through than a cheaper belt-drive unit ? Does it make sense to buy a 1200 for a non-DJ? I made the stupid mistake of buying a cheap direct drive technics unit to replace a comparable belt driven...

Legal Download sites that offer DRM-Free & Lossless (WAV/FLAC etc) music downloads

From Wikipedia: "Since BearShare 6, the program is malware-free and cannot be used anymore to download arbitrary files. Instead, BearShare offers paid music downloads in the DRMed WMA format as well as free content in MP3 format. The free MP3 content is shared by users and is automatically...

Legal Download sites that offer DRM-Free & Lossless (WAV/FLAC etc) music downloads

Lucky for me, the music I like tends to come from small independent labels... by 'legal', I meant to describe sites that pay the artists revenue for downloads (as opposed to Allofmp3 type operations). I buy most of my music used off eBay and get the rest from online vendors and local record...

Legal Download sites that offer DRM-Free & Lossless (WAV/FLAC etc) music downloads

I searched around a bit but didn't find anything relevant so I hope this isn't redundant, but I am looking for some legal music download sites that offer either lossless (s/a FLAC, APE etc) or WAV files. CD-quality + DRM Free is the only way I'm going to make the transition to digital downloads...

M-Audio Transit midi latency / Audiophile 2496 monitoring! Ouch! Too hot!!

Thanks for the suggestion, that may be just what the doctor ordered. Headroom has these available for $35, but I'm concerned about how they may affect the quality of the sound. Aside from the obvious drop in decibels, will the signal passing through remain "lossless" so to speak? Will el' cheapo...

M-Audio Transit midi latency / Audiophile 2496 monitoring! Ouch! Too hot!!

No Transit midi users in here? Incidentally, I was looking at the Transit in particular as it would double as a cheap line-out on my laptop for use with my Pint/DT770 bass bliss combo (not to mention the digital out that could accommodate an external DAC), but perhaps there's another card...

The new Beyerdynamic headphones are being released?

Are the 660s a new entry? I've never heard of them before... Beyer's site has them chalked-up as their 'extreme bass' can... perhaps to replace the pre-2005 770 as the bass monster of the line? A recent thread about the 05' 770s would have me believe that their newer 770s have been balanced...
