Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player
The SD card slot cover on my M3X broke. A couple of pieces of rubber came off with use, and now the cover just hangs loose unless I keep it in place with a piece of tape. Is there any way to replace it? Or is the tape a solution as good as any other?- egokun

Yes. No luck. Like I said, my M3X doesn‘t even react when I plug it into a wall socket. The battery’s probably busted.- egokun

So apparently, my M3X simply died today. I left it in my bag overnight, it wasn’t playing music. I took it out of the bag this morning, no response. I hooked it up to a charger, no sign of life. Left it charging for a few hours, nothing. Any suggestions?- egokun

What is the exact name of UAPP on the store app on the M3X? I searched for it and couldn't find it. The Shanling app is very smooth, my main problem with it is the fade-in of tracks that I just don't understand. I've had this with the Fiio app on occasions, as well, and I don't know if it's...- egokun

Thank you for your reply. You’ve been very clear, and yeah, brightness setting is a slider, just there at the top. I expected an icon, that’s why I missed it at first and convinced myself it wasn’t there! It’s a bit disappointing about the track numbers. I have some multi-disc albums with lots...- egokun

Maybe my car system isn’t compatible with this then. It works automatically with my iPod Touch as soon as I plug in the USB cable, but with the M3X I tried selecting Line Out first and no results, then Vehicle Mod and nope, still not working. Have to connect through the 3.5mm jack, which...- egokun

So, the M3X is here. It's quite hefty for its size, but also looks robust enough. It's a far cry from the paper-thin iTouch, that's for sure! I need explanations for some functions, namely: - what technical difference does it make between selecting "single" or "dual" in the DAC option? It...- egokun

By the way, which SD card has good transfer speed without breaking the bank? I always cheaped out on SD cards, but for the M3X I‘m gonna get a 128GB one at the very least, and at the usual 25MB/s speed of cheaper cards, it’s gonna take a looooong time to fill it up!- egokun

Thanks, I ordered one. My old iPod Touch’s battery has been basically dead for more than a year. I wanted a replacement in the same screen size/price tier, which seems no easy find these days. Most DAPs now are either very small and/or have questionable interface, or they cost more than I’m...- egokun

Most fun headphones you've ever heard...
Sennheiser IE8/IE80. Best IEMs I’ve tried and a sound signature I’m still looking for in a full-size can. Haven’t succeeded yet.- egokun

Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread
I agree to an extent. The 99C is supremely comfortable, but the sound signature is weird. It's the first time I find that a headphone actually improves using the iTunes preset "reduce bass" EQ. The bass on the 99C creates a massive wall of sound that can be really distracting. The headphone...- egokun

HiFiMan HE4XX
Hmm. Hmmmmmmm. Been reading some reviews. Always amazing how different people’s opinions on a headphone can be, LOL. Some say it’s the best compromise in the HD line, some say the mids disappear when the bass kicks in, some say the highs are non-existent, some say the highs can be too...- egokun

HiFiMan HE4XX
Ah, this is relevant to my interests because I like The Beatles a lot! I agree on the M50x, I bought it based on the mad praise it gets but it’s as V-shaped as they get. Nice bass but that’s pretty much it for me. The Beatles can get a little shouty and sharp even with less treble-leaning...- egokun

HiFiMan HE4XX
Guys, can you help me understand if the 4XX may suit my tastes? Background: my desktop chain is PC -> Topping D30 DAC -> Magni 3. I also have a Topping A30 (with Burson V5 opamps) but the Magni sounds slightly warmer and less dry so I usually go with the Magni. My other headphones at the...- egokun

Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review
Say guys, I got a TH-00 Ebony on the latest drop. I’ve had it for a couple months and while the bass is everything I could hope for, I find the mids slightly recessed for my taste and the overall sound signature kinda... shouty. The first time I tried the Ebony with a simple iPod Touch ->...- egokun

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
Yeah, I was thinking about the Magni 3, but I've briefly browsed the Head-Fi thread for that amp and I think I read a few complaints about some technical issues VS the Magni 2. Also, somebody mentioned that the Magni 3 isn't ideal for IEMs, which I also use with an amp sometimes. Can you confirm...- egokun

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
So guys, I'm thinking about the HD600. In the past I tried the HD650 and found it way too mellow and laid-back for my taste. Also I probably didn't have a capable enough amp to drive it fully, but the sound signature wasn't my cup of tea. Sometime later, I had the chance to audition the HD600...- egokun

Sennheiser IE 80 S impression thread
Vocals: good, a bit "dry" Soundstage: not particularly expansive. Overall: great detail, good balance, fantastic fit, no shrillness or sibilance. It's good, even excellent at that price, but the IE80 (not the latest model, the previous one) is better tuned to my taste.- egokun

Sennheiser IE 80 S impression thread
Did a very brief A/B comparison with the IE80. Didn't have much time unfortunately. The original IE80 is quite different. Using the same Comply tips, it makes vocals sound much closer and clearer, and the bass is more tamed. As a result of the vocals sounding closer, the soundstage feels less...- egokun

The Official Sennheiser IE800S thread!
Wish I had the cash to squander on these. They do sound like something I would like immensely, even if I think I'd have serious fit issues with any tips other than Complys. If only I could try them out, but I'm in Italy so it's pretty much impossible to find someone who has one.- egokun

Sennheiser IE 80 S impression thread
I've pulled the trigger and ordered a pair from Amazon. I simply had to try them myself. One things must be said loud and clear: Sennheiser's own silicone tips for the IE series suck. They're absolutely terrible. I've tried the IE80S with the standard pre-mounted medium silicone tips and it...- egokun

Sennheiser IE 80 S impression thread
I don't. Or rather, I don't believe that it can take as many hours as people often claim, especially with IEMs. I often experience differences in listening depending on daytime, mood, energy levels, head position, and many other factors. Headphone fit also plays a huge role. The same headphone...- egokun

Brainwavz Audio B400 4-Way Quad Driver 3D Printed IEM
Alright, after some more time with the B400, my opinion of them has greatly improved. Fit is VERY important. I switched to the small silicone tips, and with a deeper insertion the bass gets much better. Speaking about fit. The cable slider, which I had missed the first time around (seriously...- egokun
