Home use/PC headphones to compliment Ety ER-4S

I've done some research and I like what I've read about the DT-990's. I will try to find a place I can audition them locally and then decide from there.

Home use/PC headphones to compliment Ety ER-4S

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I assume from the response, I should avoid the HD-650's?

    Hotrodding the X-Fi: A Layman's Guide (No 56k)

I am interested in these mods for my X-Fi, but I don't have any way to get them done due to lack of workspace and lack of time. Is anyone modding these cards as a service? I have bulit in sound on the motherboard, so I could be without the card for a couple of weeks.

Home use/PC headphones to compliment Ety ER-4S

I have a set of Etymotic ER-4S's that I love, but they become uncomfortable after about 60-90 minutes. I travel a lot, so I get plenty of sessions out of them, but for home use, I need a comfortable headphone. I also own Grado SR-225's and Sennheiser HD-25-1's, but neither produce the kind of...

    Voltage everyone on my Meta42

I don't have my multimeter on me at the moment, but I put in two different opamps (ad823 and opa2134), but they both give me the same output.. that is, no sound in the left, a faint sound resemblign the music being played in the right. turning the pot does nothing, but when i touch the pot, i...

    Voltage everyone on my Meta42

Ok, I went ahead and took some new measurements, this time a bit more scientifically. First, I measured distance of each pole on my ps from the virtual ground. I got -9.3 and +9.5. I have to brand new alkaline 9v batteries in series, so this result is expected. Next, I tested the opamp...

    Voltage everyone on my Meta42

Ok, i believe you may be onto something gariver. Can someone explicity explain the proper ways to setup grounding on the meta? Or, can someone tell me where to find out about proper grounding? I've read tangent's site inside and out, but i suppose it is possible that im not reading thoroughly...

    Voltage everyone on my Meta42

I have been slowly assembling a meta for the past couple weeks, and last night I came close to finishing it. The problem I seem to have is I am getting DC everywhere. Im getting 9v on pins 1, 4, and 5 of the opamp and 1.5v on pin 2. Im getting about 9v on the output. I using two 9v batteries in...

Eggheads...Help! Suggestions for entry level electronics text.

I've never taken any electrical engineering courses before, but I have found Art of Electronics to be very clear and easy to read. Also, if you are still apprehensive about the book, go to a local book store and sit down with a copy for a good 20-30 minutes. Read some random chapters that...

Eggheads...Help! Suggestions for entry level electronics text.

bookpool.com has a much better price on art of electronics. also, if you have any college bookstores in your area, check there for a used copy. you can usually fine a mint condition, yet used copy, under various physics and engineering classes for about 50 dollars.

Anything Grado. The Red is especially good for the price.

    Battery power supply

Would a regulator aid in balancing the power drain on the batteries? Also, would there be any benefit to putting some caps on my battery supply?

    Battery power supply

I think I will probably go with the 20xAAA in series plus rail splitter. I do not mind adding a rail splitter, especially since I don't have to worry about unbalanced power drain and whatnot. Regarding the voltage regulator stuff, I *thought* I read about that, but maybe I'm just losing it...

"Breaking in" Speakers? Also a question about speaker cable and care

tinning the ends of speaker cable can be counter productive. if the wire is copper or silver, then you are putting a less conductive material on them (solder). if you are using very high gauge stranded copper or silver that frays easily, then a drop of solder on the tip will help them keep...

    Silver connectors vs Gold?

gold isnt always better. silver is a better conductor than gold, but gold wont oxidize or tarnish. stick with what you've got, although, you might want to build yourself a mini to rca cable, as this would minimize the number of connections.

    FYI: Panasonic SL-CT570

I just got one for 19.02 + 6.99 s/h on ebay from realcrazymo. He gives a disclaimer that all equipment purchased is AS IS, and that there is a chance the items might not work, but mine works! It is clearly used, there are dings and marks on it, but for 26 dollars shipped, its worth every penny...

    Battery power supply

I have seen some people talk about their portable battery power supplies in a few threads recently, and I would like to get a few more details. I am going to be building a mains powered +/- 12vdc power supply which connects via DIN plug on the amp. What I want to do is make a battery pack...

    caps question

as i said earlier.. *probably* not. well.. in ideal situations, no. if you happen to screw something up and one rail gets all the voltage.. the corresponding C2 and C3 would pop. people often say that for safety reasons, use a voltage rating at two times the rail. so if your rail is 12v, then...

    caps question

I recently ordered parts for a meta, and I went with option 1. They are all roughly equivalent price wise, but the 470's are a good 10mm shorter than either of the other two options. I prefer this since I am trying to put them in a slightly small enclosure. since you are using an elpac...
