Best DAC/Amp for Sennheiser 650 Headphones ? (Budget: Around 500 $CA)
Well your sound card will do just fine as a dac. I suggest getting a tube amp like the bottlehead crack to contrast the "solid state" amp on the sound card.- cheneric

Thanks for the info. Probably going to grab the tubes from vacuumtubes.net. Looks like the 6AS7G is on there too. Should I grab that also? If so, which brand? Seems like theres a good contrast between the 5998 and the 6AS7G.- cheneric

Damage has been done. :( Does anyone know where I can get 1 piece of little foam thingy? I've seen it at a meetup before, but I can't imagine paying for shipping for a little foam piece. Right now I have electrical tape wrapped around it. It's better.- cheneric

Schiit SYS Passive Preamp
Schiit, make us a switchbox! Any word on the reversible? I'm not electronically savy, but I think it would be cool if they had a switch that would make it 2 output 1 input and vice versa.- cheneric

Schiit SYS Passive Preamp
Hmm..never really considered a preamp. Are preamps essentially to give more control to your output/input and volume control? I recently assembled a bottlehead crack and I'm interested in testing out the difference between from my dac to active speakers vs. dac ->crack->active speakers. ...- cheneric

that's what I thought. I spoke to doc about it for my lsr305's and he said it should be fine as long as I start off with minimal volume.- cheneric

Why not? Have you tried to see if it made a difference? I'm planning to hook up my active speakers to my bottlehead crack and see how it sounds.- cheneric

What are those rings around the tubes? I find them aesthetically pleasing. So -10db makes it more sensitive and +4db makes it less sensitive to volume changes? I thought it was the other way around- cheneric

Hey Doc, So I just noticed my speakers have a built in feature to change the input sensitivity: http://www.jblpro.com/www/products/recording-broadcast/3-series/lsr305#Specs Selectable Input Sensitivity - The -10 dB/+4 dB sensitivity switch ensures compatibility with a broad range of...- cheneric

Audioengine A5+ vs KRK Rokit RP6 G3
What's great about the JBL's is that they're less directional than any other studio monitor because of their wave guide design. The sweet spot is a lot larger. I use these pretty close to me and I have a small room, so I wouldn't know how they would do at a distance. I can tell you they get loud...- cheneric

Audioengine A5+ vs KRK Rokit RP6 G3
The biggest difference is just how much more alive the jbls sound. I mean if flat is what you're looking for, vanatoos are the one. the jbls had a more 3d sound to it and the vanatoo's were 2d.- cheneric
